Only this time on my own vehicle and not a customers!!! Yay get to stay home this Sunday and work on my own stuff for a change!!
Went through all the ropes with this job. Check High pressure switch and during 1st diagnosis, had power. Checked low side same thing. Nothing to the clutch. OK great.
Went online and pulled the A/C wiring diagrams and started with grounds. All where good. Then a break in power to clutch has a break, time to find it.....
Underneath on the right side of the frame rail the A?C clutch wires are routed across the cross member and into a very tight location in conjunction with trans cooler lines and the idler arm for the steering. Turns out the wire was broken under the insulation, so at first glance, no frayed or showing wires. Turns out the original manufacturer wire clips are the culprit.
Will route the wires a little differently having found 3 in total broken. Green yellow and brown (I think possibly black) which the black/brown wire was spongy and I think I broke that on original examination and thus the A/C stopped working all together while it had been intermittent.
The wires have very little room for play, so I extended the low side switch (yellow wire) and comp clutch switch for more play and give while I route in a different location.
Right now, just varified my repairs, need to unplug the clutch and low side switch, wrap them up and secure where needed.
A note for you burban/tahoe guys/gals; the wiring is pretty cheap. Not super cheap but also not super great being a thing gauge. If you have an A/C issue and you test for power and there is none to the high side low side or clutch, gonna have a look on the the cross member near the idler arm and trans cooler lines.
Another 1/2 hour and I can call it a perm-a-fix. Woot!
