Uploads have been turned off till 9/1. It's a long story but I'm in a little dispute with Proboards right now. They've been off for roughly 2 weeks now.

To read some good news here, I have to tell You, that my old pal, the DFI 790FX is back in business again !! Thanks to my friend Norbi, the board waked up after a bios chip change. I'm quite happy now ! The only problem was the bios ic. Very special thanks to Norbi for giving the board back to me !

I killed the FX9590 Delidded today (Sorry Jon) got 7.8Ghz out of it before a touch more CPU VDDA killed it. Was using Turbo V to soft clock it and raised the CPU VDDA from 2.6 to 2.7 applied and it locked looked down and it had FF in the display I rebooted and to be instantly greeted with FF tried playing around cleared CMOS and the like but nothing could bring it back to life. I knew it was dead the minute I rebooted and it had FF straight away its one of those things you just know. That is a FX8350 and FX9590 that I have killed cold now both around the -185 mark with too much voltage the 8350 was 2.2v Vcore. I jumped on Fleabay after it and found another 8350 with a date 3 weeks earlier than my original 1241 my original was 1244 which was the best FX I have had so far. But some good news tonight my 1800X has passed RMA and I will be getting another email when the replacement is posted.

No I didnt, wasnt saving a validation till 8 but never actually got there. It would of been lucky to get to 8 it was struggling at 7.8

It would of been lucky to get to 8 it was struggling at 7.8 Did the same thing myself back when I first got the 165 and was trying it out - It nearly hit 3.6GHz before it crashed and from that point on it never went that high again. I tried a few times to see if I couldn't get it there or close but it's max clock kept dropping so I had to grab what I got before it was too late to claim gold. I've learned from that ANYTIME you can get it there, validate and it's also a good idea to validate as you go, this way you lose nothing provided you don't bork the entire setup.

I7-980X Gulftown I cant complain it won me a Trophy for Challenger Div 7. I cleared CMOS for a while before booting it because it was frozen last run but I think it still gave it 1.8v it booted once but never made it into the bios then it never booted again. I like the platform so I will have to get another CPU. Had to sub to shrimps comp with a I7-950

Killed my X299 board sorta, has one RAM setting that works (default). Put the 7820 in worst than the previous CPU plus BIOS wasn't seeing all the RAM. Went to re-seat the CPU noticed some of the pins looked funny, had a line of TIM connecting 4 pins on a diagonal, cleaned it with a little alcohol on a toothbrush looks fine but ain't working fine. Is Artic MX-2 conductive?

It isnt conductive but is an insulator so weak connections. alcohol on a soft small artist brush and lightly stroke over the pins will clean them up without damage.

Is Artic MX-2 conductive? No, it's not conductive. Pins in the socket could be skewed. It doesn't take much. Good magnification and light and some patience and you might be able to straighten them. They are brittle though. Too much bending and they break right off. GL.....and I'm sorry.

Thanks for the info, I use the MX-2 biggest tube I can find at a reasonable price on Newegg as I remember. The only other thing might be that the CPU is so big it has cold spots and getting condensation in the pin area of the socket was rainy last couple days and had to go from 8c to 12c to keep from having a lake on top of the block.
Added; will give it a hard look with the magnifier and see. Was worried about that X299 has a lot of real a state, first CPU I actually spread the TIM with a card.

Wet socket will have the same symptoms. Dry it out for a couple days.
