Not like the old spinners. Slap it in the freezer over night and post it up cold.

Linux doesn't see it either? I have not tried with Linux. And there is apparently an OCZ derivative on Linux and the old go to was to use it to update the firmware. but the fact that I don't see it in the bios as a drive I think I might be bunked. on the weekend I'm going to re-solder the connector to the board and se if that helps.
I had moved from system to system a lot over the weekend and was just using straight connectors so there is a small chance that maybe I over flexed the connector.. though I tend to wiggle side to side and not up and down

Uh boy. You know, I really don't like all these little connectors on stuff. So fragile. Sata connectors can be the worst offenders. They can snap off so easily. I can't tell you how many ssds I have here with broken connectors on them.

Lately pulled out my Crosshair IV Formula to play a bit with. All of a sudden while checking this and that of the system, see that the GPU ASUS GTX750TI-PH does not make 16x, only 8x. Made a few load tests, even re-seating the card a couple times, nope, 8x it is. Took a GT740 OC to try with, and 16x it makes. dammit. Will have to try the GXT750Ti in another board, can't believe it, it had not had a hard life.

Could have slain my first FX chip on Ln2, will find out later after the thaw but did get some good runs from it in the process.

may have killed my impact VIII and 5800x . If the bios is OK , it's dead . The CPU is definitely dead so that's on it's way back. Looks like the CPU may have taken the board out.

OUCH! We know how that is since it's part of the game too. Everyone here has lost stuff and it's the risk you take when doing things like this. I'm hoping the CPU in mine is OK and the board itself didn't get affected either.

Killed one of my GTX 480 ES Did quickly get a screen out of it but the VRM stinks caps have leaked so may be able to repair it. Hope i can because according to GPU-Z these are 95-97% ASIC bins. need to invest in some better soldering equipment and steal the caps off a dead 480.

This is one thread I try and stay away from lol. This year, no dead hardware. Degraded hardware maybe, but not dead

I have what was on the bench, now in a case for F@H. Not sure if something will be on the bench before the new years.
For sure socket 462 very very soon. I have some chips still to try out and Burnee needs to be powered on to keep him good.

Can't you find another stick and probrably rob the broken stuff from it? I've seen guys do it before when they had a bad IC on a stick. Got another dead one, figured out which ones were good and bad and swapped them around using the hot air part of a soldering station.
Either that oir use that one to fix another stick.

ugh. Fired up this one again after a long time. Have not really bothered about PCIe 8X. Now the 750Ti runs PCIe 16x again! Have not touched much except that EuP ready param. in BIOS, IIRC.

Gonna play whack a mole with my x58a-ud3r and an axe later... It just randomly killed my E5606, 2nd best BCLK chip I own, easy 290+ BCLK on cold, best chip I found myself.

Dialed in 260 bclk settings, next post 00. Tested on R3E, same 00. same profile worked on E5640 (though the board didn’t clock that one well either). Chopped it up now, to the trash it goes. Losing a top 0.4%ish chip hurts a lot...

After retiring the xh Formula IV, replaced by a GA-970A-DS3P, the PCI-e 2.0 8x was back again. Took out the 750Ti and carefully inspected every trace on the PCI-e 16x connector, using a magnifier, and yup, three of the traces had a scratch of which two seemed be all the way cross the trace. One was close lower edge so would not matter, but the 2nd one was higher up. Resorted to the graphite pen trick (as used with old skt-A chips). Made an attempt with a sharp graphite pen to fill the scratch. Re seated the card. Perfect, PCI-e 16x 2.0 works! This is a preowned GPU and also been used in a few rigs here, so I do not know when the scratch came there.

Bad day grinding had a new in the box A6-7470K, seal unbroken. Dropped it in a Asus A88X-Pro used the jumper to clear CMOS hit the power button posted to BIOS, had just finished setting minutes and the system shuts down, power LED on, no post codes on following attempts. Pulled the CPU dropped a working CPU in same results on the MB. Setup the Crossblade installed the 7470 nothing but 00 on the post code display. Don't think I've ever lost a CPU & MB together, RAM still working. Switched to my backup PS, although the one in use tested OK. Ordered another Pro, got here yesterday, little easier to come by in the US compared to the Crossblade and no real difference for the cooling I'm using.

A very old OCZ PSU. Not sure how but the 5v rail died I tried to fix it but the dang thing is so compact I would have had to desolder so many things to take a peek at the parts.

First CPU I've killed was today, Pentium G6950. Luckily mobo (P7P55D Deluxe) is okay.
It loved volts and ran very cool, to the point where 4.8GHz @ 1.7v set (1.68v get) was handled by a 280mm AIO. Entirely my fault for testing my luck running at an insane voltage at ambient. Cheap CPU though, so not a big deal. RIP in peace
