I'm not really new here or CP, just catching up with life a bit and thought I'd stop by and say hi. As some of you know already much of my puter time has been eaten up with reviewing and that doesn't leave a lot of spare time. Two months ago I finally retired from my factory job (well semi-retired) still too poor to survive but I don't have to go there anymore. Hopefully, this frees up more time for my tinkering. We'll see the other half always seems to have grand ideas haha. I do see some new faces and to those I haven't seen before hello and it's nice to see Ozzy found a home again!

Thanks for the welcome fellas, always knew I was welcome here but thanks anyway. I'm really hoping to poke at some of my older stuff in the near future and as always you guys are a wealth of knowledge particularly in that arena. Like that sub I posted for your ST comp. Pretty much a newb when it comes to 1366 was out of my budget in the day and finally able to circle back.

Nice to see you pop in! Your scores are interesting/difficult to go after, to say the least!
... I'd probably say your scores are the ones I aim to try to get as close to for 2D,kind of like how I still shoot to beat some of ftw's old scores ^_^;;;;;

Thanks Wulfe, you still use ambient right? If so you might have a hard time catching some of them.

Well, when I push things anyways ^_^;;; subzero will have to wait for a little while though before I can get back into such, money's tied up in other places, so I guess for now I'm technically ambient since I use an AIO CLC for most things. I still want a Tek9 at some point, because why not but wow they've gotten expensive

Chilling is as simple as 15$ pond pump from hardware store and a bucket of ice water and the water block. Just add ice as needed and remove water when needed. Then, you may catch Johan.
Sshhh. don't tell any body I told you..... lol

Sshhh. don't tell any body I told you..... lol That's where I got started. The pump was a bit more but I used a big cooler and a bunch of ice paks. Good for a couple hundred MHz but that wasn't enough and eventually went full cold. Found a guy who was getting out of it and picked up his equipment which cut the cost by more than half. Those Dewars aren't cheap!

Oh indeed. Got my 20L dewar for free from the air gas guy years ago. He even filled if free! Those days are gone and LN2 for 20L is about 80 bucks.

Oh indeed. Got my 20L dewar for free from the air gas guy years ago. He even filled if free! Those days are gone and LN2 for 20L is about 80 bucks. That's pretty much why I said screw it to LN2.... It's just too expensive. I can easily get four weekends of fun with dry ice for what just one evening with LN2 would get me... Assuming I could even get LN2 (transit gets a tad cranky if yo I walk on with big, bulky things, doubly so if smoke is coming out of them, and work... Yeaaaah, that's a big "get caught and you're fired for carrying hazmat in a van" alongside fines from commercial if they catch you). Over here, you're lucky to be quoted $6.50/L if you want to be able to get it in store and do the whole "we won't ask what kind of vehicle you're driving" kind of vend. Praxair will sell it to you, but you have to drive forty minutes to go pick it up, and you absolutely MUST have all the placards and proper transport to carry it. (I'd also mention the safety glasses, safety vest, and steel toes, but I have those at work already) If I were suddenly making a lot more (say, at least twice what I am now) then sure, I'd love to do LN2. Sounds like a ton of fun, with different annoyances to deal with, but still. At least condensation is a different issue, and things typically freeze in the surround area...

Well personally If I had to pick between DICE and LN2, I'd pick the LN2. Dry ice can be tricky, and gotta mess with flammable liquids such as acetone, and Pot design matters also.
But as you've maybe seen, I have fun with alternative chilling methods such as TEC cooling. This is a different kind of challenge in it's own ways.
Never had an issue transporting it. Have never been pulled over with it in the truck with me either lol. Not sure, maybe get a ticket and let go. The local cops probably wouldn't know what to do with it if they where to confiscate it....

Wulfe sounds like you lot over there go about getting it all wrong go to your nearest Cancer clinic or a larger dental clinic and ask who delivers their LN2 thats the person to get it from they will bring it to your door and fill a dewar in the driveway and be cheaper than the big mob. If I went to BOC and got it filled I would be around $6 a litre this way its $4 and he comes to the door the hardest part I do is lug the dewars up the Back stairs. Here is the truck he comes in its got 2 200 Ltr tanks on the back of it.

Wow Wulfe, Praxair out west must be a bunch of crooked prudes? I go to Praxair and fill my 35 L for usually 40-50 bucks depends on the price that day and as long as I have a pickup and keep the dewar strapped in the back they don't care. Dry Ice is about 30-35 for a good sized cooler full of the pellets. I'm with Shrimp once you go LN2 there's nothing like it.

I live in an apartment building with condo management that's a tad.... Itchy on the trigger finger. Assuming I could get delivery, I suspect I'd wind up getting letters pretty quick about LN2 deliveries showing up and just what I was doing with such >.>;;;;
As for Praxair out here, yeah, they pretty much are such - we don't get a lot of the nice discounts you guys get. My dry ice is only free (usually) because the sales guys are, uhm, well... One of the ones that are left know me from when they were one of my customers, and I made sure to take good care of them - and when I visit, I still take care of them, despite them being on someone else's route ^_^;;;;
But yeah, work vehicle (the only vehicle I have access to, and can't use over the weekend or evenings) rules and regulations are pretty tight from Transport Canada (it is a company vehicle after all), and then there's the whole, uhm... I'd lose my job if caught carrying LN2 inside the vehicle, and not just because it's a risk to your life if a spill happens.
LN2 is something I'd love to run with at some point, but it's out of my budget, and I've no real easy way to get it home in the first place ^_^;;;; (and I'm not asking coworkers to do such for me!) ...Kind of why I was saddened the HWBot World Tour didn't happen last year, but eh, such is life.
