My brother has a 67 LDT of that color, 4 door with a 390. Since it was his first ride he said LTD meant "Learn To Drive".

LOL, I had a '69 XL Fast Back with the 390. Darned thing was really quick. Right up until I wrecked it.
Edit: I can't even imagine it with a 427/4 speed combo. Sheesh. Monster machine.

LOL, after I wrecked the '69 Galaxie XL I fell into a deal I couldn't pass up and I got into a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T 440. I was one lucky teen let me tell ya. But I am lucky to be alive. I was a freaking nut and really didn't appreciate what I had at the time. If only I could go back in time. I would put all the cars I had back then and put them all away. I would be a rich man today. Cars didn't cost what they do today and the deals you could find were pretty awesome. Like taking over payments from someone who could not hang onto let's say...............a '70 Cuda or a 440 Dodge Dart. Not like now where a performance car is in the $75,000 range. I'm sorry but no modern day car is worth that to me. They are just a bunch of over priced electronic bull shit now.

My Galaxy was a 390 3 speed. My '69 was too, with a shift kit. I don't remember off hand if that was factory or if it was an add on later but it was good for at least 60mph in first gear. Slip it into 2nd gear at about 60-65MPH and she would freaking scream and burn out right then and there. Same experience with second gear at about 100MPH. You had to hang on tight. 390/3 speed combo was damned nice on that car. 4-barrel dual exhaust, stiff spring kit, over sized heavy duty bushings/brake package. It kinda like a police package or some kinda race package. It was mean. I used to bury them tires easily. Miss that car.
Bad ass automatic tranny.

My old man built all his cars up just like you guys. No pictures really, at least I don't have them. He carried his corvette picture in his wallet for many years. Was his first car saved up for it.
My 81 non hot rod El camino is probably the oldest and fastest thing I've ever owned sadly enough. Just can't afford most of the really nice hot rods from those years at least not in good condition.... But yea my 77' Coupe De'ville got up pretty good. Leave 305 camero at the line. same with the 5.0 mustangs. They just couldn't touch that turbo 400 transmission and low end torque of the big blocks even at stock no mods.

3 speed stick, not auto. On the floor too. Bench seat besides. Weird combo. Somebody had to order it like that.

God that's so awesome. Probably some old timer ordered it that way, Gramps loved the bench seats lol. Just had more room that way. Lay down and take a nap (or the girl friend...)

Those were some good times when you could order up a car pretty much the way you wanted it. Add this, delete that. You could basically order a sleeper. Can't do that now.
My Brother ordered a 1972 Dodge Dart Coupe, at least I think that was the year............318 V8 with a 3-speed manual. Man that little car was soooooo fast. I hated the color though. It was a Dark Green, like an avocado green. Inside and out. Steel wheels matching body color paint and vinyl bucket seats with trim rings and baby moons. He slapped that sucker so hard out of second one night that he broke the retaining pins in the rear leaf springs and almost twisted the rear axle off of the car. Bizarre little 318. 2 barrel single exhaust too.

This is sweet too:
This is a real performance car. Not like that electronic bull shit you see on the roads today. This takes some skill and know how to drive. YOU HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE to own something like this.

Had a chance once to buy a 64 1/2 Mustang with a 170 6 cylinder/Ford-O-Matic trans (3-speed version with the green dot for "High gear")that was collectible - To this day this is the only one I've ever seen in person that had a factory installed bench seat.
Still had the shifter in the floor like they all have..... The car even had it's factory build papers that proved it was indeed one of the very early ones that had those installed due to a shortage of bucket seats available for them at the time, that in turn being due to the insane demand for them at the time and instead of holding up production waiting for bucket seats to be available they simply installed the bench seats to get them out the door.
Not many of those exist in any form simply because there weren't alot of them made that way period.

I know - I even test drove it and it was nice for what it was. Very peppy too, would get itself up and moving quick for a small 6 plus the Ford-O-Matic trans made it get really good gas mileage once it hit it's top gear.
A friend of mine bought it and had it for awhile but eventually sold it.
Between that one and my old Dodo (64 Falcon 4-door with a 170 and the two speed version of a Ford-O-Matic auto trans) mine was actually faster once they got moving. He'd beat me out of the hole at first but I'd catch and pass him everytime. No match for anything that was a real rod on the street (Of course) but we had fun anyway.

Some of those sixes were really nice. My Dad had a '63 Chevy Impala with a straight 6. Nice car. My Dad always bought the practical cars where my brothers and I always went with massive horse power and muscle. My Dad was always pissed at us. Said we just had no common sense.
My Dad: "Stupid kid needs a 426 Hemi to go get a gallon of milk. Stupid kid. Isn't that a Fucking truck engine? "
