5003MHz limit for AMBIENT cooling . No limit for EXTREME cooling category... Edit: beaten

am i reading this wrong, or is this for 5003 mhz cpu limit for a particular bench and stage for the ES sample cpus
All AMD and Intel CPU’s are allowed Engineering Sample (ES) CPU’s are allowed, however, all participants making submissions with ES CPU’s will be exempt from prizes The CPU frequency is limited to 5003MHz then i see it says
Benchmark rules outlined above apply All AMD and Intel CPU’s are allowed Engineering Sample (ES) CPU’s are allowed, however, all participants making submissions with ES CPU’s will be exempt from prizes No CPU frequency limit
There's two separate rankings for the comp, Ambient & Extreme. For ambient the CPU freq is limited to 5003MHz (Core & Cache/Uncore) but for the extreme category there is no freq limitation. Edit: Also beaten to the punch.

I put epower on my HD5870 yesterday it hasnt made one bit of difference if the standard VRM can supply enough power to where the the chip cant clock higher more power wont help. I have put 1.75 volt through it for no gain. I need to find a better card.

when you pup on that zombie, I guess you don't need to plug in to the original power ports on the GPU eh?

Do you know how the six pin graphics power plugs work only 4 wires supply ground or power the other is used for a signal so the bios knows weather you have got them plugged or not without that signal safety they could try to run 3D without the plugs in and burn the slot. If you run a solder bridge across the ground pins where the pins go through the board you dont have to plug the original power plugs in but I am lazy and couldnt be bothered so I just plug the originals in as well.
If you look on the back where the pins for the power plug goes through the board of a card you will notice the grounds aint all connected the same.

What do you think about this and the OCF? Board so far has been nothing but aces all around.

I'm curious how will You like it ! I guess, You will, just needs a bit (really just a bit) longer time maybe than ROG types. Not doin' higher clocks / harder things such easy as some Asus board can someday but it's just depend how sophisticated the curves in bios, the hardware is ready for play !

I'm looking forward to seeing how the scores look once the chart is update... I want to see if I'm second last or last atm! EDIT: WHoooo, I'm in last place! Yeah, silly thing to be proud of, but at the same time, I'm hoping to have something more competitive.... Soon. Ish. ^_^;;; hoping to pick up one of those cards soonish too.. >.>;;;

Don't worry Wolf, I'll be there to give you some bottom-feeding competition in no time. Just gotta wait for the guys to stop sandbagging and I'll be set to battle for last place.

Oh gawds, a sandbag war for last place... Would almost be hilarious to watch. Almost. I sooo hate sandbagging, but that's a (huge) rant for another day. Still can't believe someone accused me of it ages ago, and I'm just sitting there looking at the rig that's still warming up from a "two hours until it ends, so hail Satan" run in a competition... (I call it a "hail Satan" run when I basically push something to that point of "I really hope 2V won't kill this CPU" or "hope nothing bad happens if I feed this tick of ram 3V" kind of levels - basically banking on devil's luck kind of deal)

Didn't see it, so no worries. With sandbagging.. . Some do it, some don't. I'm just one of those "eh, I ran the bench, I'll post it" kind of guys who doesn't see the appeal to it. ^_^

my 5870 is a dud, it works fine, but doesnt want to clock much at all, thats the way it goes, well, on to the next and see !! I'll playfully say it beats mine that runs on the power of dreams and rainbows... And clouds, or something! ...Aka instead of ordering in a card, I sent that money to Denton, TX and got a handful more metal minis for an ongoing project. *whistles innocently* .......Even if the forumites jokingly call it their "monthly tithe" (it's jokingly called that because the free mini threshold is $40, and free shipping is usually $35, so most wind up spending at least $40 USD a month there)

They made 5870s powered by dreams and rainbows and clouds or something?! Do they clock like mad? Was it Sapphire maybe?

You're running a reference card and beat my score??!?", so they could very well sneak rainbows into some of their cards...

This is true! I had Sapphires 4850x2. I used it strictly with gaming. Had 2 more single slot 4850s and lined up the quad fire. Asus cards if I remember right. Any how that Sappire card, I should have never sold, it clocked on glitter puffs and pots of gold at the end of a rainbow.

It will be good to volt up and bench for HW points they are worth good points those.
But sadly your Dud 5870 will easily chew its ears off and spit them out it also doesnt support double precision so its useless for GPUPI. The 5870 core will scale with volts it is badly undervolted for a radeon it was 1.19v from memory and would be okay for GPUPI volted. You never know the memory might scale a bit too with some volts.
