WOW top score Brad would be the man to guide you I imagine its similar to the X58OC. Fast bus and QPI link they are fun when you get used to them and go alright.

It was a chance find. I walk through there all the time and never see anything good. Saw this in a battered case off to the side. Took a peak inside and threw the whole thing in the back of the car immediately. Made my day.

Ground has the Bclk down, need platter drives for high PCIe. As much uncore/NB as it will bench at. I run out of cooling for anything with a 24/25+ multi. Vinster has ran the board before.

What is the good benching chip for this? 980X?

I have that board and ran it with chilled water, so far my favorite x58 board. every CPU I've put in her, temps have been the killer.
is it a v1.0 or 2.0? it'll say in the corner that's cut-off in the pic

What is the good benching chip for this? 980X? they all run well in it 990x is the newest that'll fit in there.
if it's a 2.0 board then you can run dual QPI chips in there including some 56xx's

What is the good benching chip for this? 980X? I'd look at the W3680/90 both unlocked and maybe a touch cheaper than 980/90X

Nothing beats free!
The X56xx Xeon's are fun to mess around with and clock well, plus the X5650 can be found for ~$20.
Those Mems could be pretty decent, maybe BBSE or D9's.

Bought four sets of DDR3 ( PSC ) from Websmile ( Michael ) two days ago. On a rather impulsive move than after logical thought. I said it is time to see and explore some previous platforms after having literally exhausted DDR4 platform. Funny thing is that first thing that came to mind was X58 with a couple of cpu's for a start Good find Scotty. Have a nice time with it. On a side note makes me wonder about some people easily throwing away HW of 500$ ++++, when they could easily sell them on eBay. I suppose many real poor people could use this money. What the hell...

True. At least it's clean now. Gonna set it up and play around for a while. Still like the sound of 6c/12t though.

If you want daily the x5675 is probably the best pick at current pricing, for benching there are plenty of interesting CPUs i7 920, 950 and 980X for high Hwpoints (these will need heavy binning most likely) E5620, x5650, i7 930 for decent Hwpoints (Some binning needed) All the other CPUs are fun to bench but aren't worth as many points. Most interesting CPU if you wanna daily it is probably the x5675, which has been agreed to as a similar bin to the X5690 and usually better then the i7s. I've only been lucky with a single 6 core so far (my W3680, 3xX5650 and L5640 were all pretty bad, my E5649 is really nice). Good 32nm CPUs can usually manage 4.5 GHz at <1.4V stable, but those usually require binning, I've found ~5 of those in about 50 32nm CPUs, 4 of those were from 2011 (Batch starting with 31) With a Gigabyte Board you'll probably have troubles overclocking 4c/4t CPUs if you ever wanna play with those, they refused to boot anything but stock on those bins. ozz - EX58 UD3R isn't nearly as good as the x58a-ud3r, it works with the xeons but its a 4 dimmer and absolute garbage with memory. Had trouble selling mine for 80€ a couple weeks back (not that it was an issue for me - I got the board for 25 because the previous owner didn't know you needed to update the bios for 32nm xeons), but thats in Germany where working boards can be found for 50-150€ (depending on the board). Aleslammer - I've found Sata working well on some boards too, the x58a-oc I currently have here boots 131 PCIe/286 MHz BCLK with SATA. Getting a couple more boards next month hoping to find something that outperforms my RIIEX

the amount of stuff ive got from throwouts is incredible, full working macs to the basic windows oc to good cases all in tact, both from the street and the tip wheres theres a bin for recycle electrical stuff, so i go picking up old tvs, printers, etc, take em up the tip, the bin has whole pc's in it, so i leave the stuff i picked up and take the pc's , strip em out of the good stuff then take the cases back for the next run , all i gotta do is make sure my weight out isnt bigger than my weight in over the weigh bridge, i got caught out once, told the guy there must be something wrong with the scales, get em checked, , he said ok i will , thx lol. sometimes ive brought home 7-8 full cases, so i havent done that again, so i put an old washing machine it when i went up next time, that fixed the weight probs on the way out, i got stuff i havent even tested from all platforms, even 386 full pc's , pentiums 1-2-3 as well, except ddr4 of course coz its the latest, and theres another 2 bins over further always full that i cant get too all destined to be crushed up, i hate it, like scottys today, you just never know whats gunna be in it, and a worker, who knows, you might just fall upon that golden board or cpu or ram that everyone looks for and hopes to get

X58 guys, give me some tips. This is what I got so far on air. Stable enough to run daily. Only major adjustment made is vcore and clocks. Can I do better somewhere? Ram is crap. Will only go to about 1630 @ 9-9-9. Will not even tighten a smidge.

Going above 200mhz on the FSB I usually bump my PCI clocks from 100 to 105.
look at the clock skew in the CPU option every CPU is different.
QPI link is still low enough, you shouldn't really have to worry about that one yet. Once you get that close to 4Ghz it's voltage needs to go up and usually does pretty quick to keep stable.
What happens if you bring your multiplier up to 22?
if in Windows 7, BSOD codes 101 is usually Vcore related and 104 is QPI related.
Vin
EDIT: guessing that DRam voltage is already bumped up?

Yes, ram voltage is up. Tried a 22 multi @ roughly the same clocks overall (4.2ish). Benches faster with higher FSB. I can probably squeak out 4.3ish but I load at 70c as it sits now, so more voltage than 1 bump will probably do me in. How is the uncore? is there an advantage to be higher?, like AMD?
