I would say your card is Ok the driver just got corrupted in the crashes. Its also the reason it works Ok in safe mode the Graphics driver isnt loaded in safe mode.

Could be the OS itself got corrupted. I'd reload an OS, install the drivers again and see what it does to completely rule out corruption as a cause.

Sorry to hear it died, maybe you'll score something nice like I did this morning. Nailed a Sapphire 3850 AGP for under $50 shipped and it was a local seller that had it. I guess they didn't really know what they had or what they could have gotten for it BUT it's mine now regardless. Seller said it was not used much since new and it looks great in the pics of it.

Nice. I have one. Fastest AGP card there ever was.

Indeed - When I saw it and the price I jumped all over it. Got one earlier but it was DOA, my fault however since they did say they didn't really know if it was any good or not with that one. The seller in the listing stated it as being PCI-E but the actual photo clearly showed it as an AGP card so...... Grabbed it and should be here sometime next week. These are getting really expensive to find and get anyway, I never thought I'd see one this cheap but hey.... It was there so I saw, I bought, done deal.

Jesus Scotty what voltage were you putting through the NB? 1.4ish, someplace in that range. FSB was walled @ 320ish until I bumped it up. Just plain bad luck is all it was. Definitely didn't expect that. Never grenaded a chipset before....ever. This is my first. Was about halfway through CB15 @ 47xx and POP....lights out. Pretty loud it was.

I am worried now I have just painted the DFI 790FXB-M2RSH to run a Sempron cold for the CC I am wanting well over 400 bus. I hope the NB dont go that way. Ah well I didnt buy the board to look at if it does it does

Thats not good at all. sorry to hear that. I put my NB all past 1.5v or higher (on boards that go that high) and never ever had anything like that happen. Were you cooling it in any way besides the stock?

Not an out right kill but a pisser, crippled a X299 board, RAM wont go over DDR4 2133 and lost one of the memory channels. Thought I got a glob of TIM on the pads on the CPU so when I went to use the CPU on a 24/7 build I flipped the CPU over to see if had some residue and sure enough had a dark patch covering about 15 pads, grabbed a paper towel and alcohol and was unable to remove it. Got the magnifier out to take a closer look and looked more like char from an electrical problem ended up removing it with some steel wool and alcohol, didn't see any pits in the pads so installed it in the new build, works alright and stable at stock but the cache side ain't going much over default but trying to keep voltages to a minimum. Also the dark patch on the CPU was not where the TIM was so must a got a little to cold and condensed a little moisture and ended up with a flash across the pads where the condensation formed.

Sorry to hear this but it happens. My 8320 has been like that for awhile now, lost dual channel sometime ago and no matter what I put it in it acts the same way. Useable but clearly crippled - Bad thing is it's one of the older, good ones.
Could be it may start acting right again but it's rare to see one recover from such.
You could try cleaning the CPU pads with Brasso, that might help.

Thanks for the tip with the Brasso might give it go when I take the build apart. Everything is working well enough for my needs in the new build but different MB.

X299 it would be still under warranty RMA it Not covered if there's socket pin damage. i have bent no.of pins on my z97-d3h.(at least half a dozen) on and off it was working single/ dual channel.(bottom right centre to corner pins on socket) and finally stopped booting. i went to gigabyte service centre. he checked and said physical damage, no warranty, we will not accept it. i explained him, i am an overclocker(i have shown my hwbot profie) and have to bench, rebench no. of times because of various competitions. i pressed the AIO too hard on it, so this happened. the guy taken it and said 99.9% it will be done, it takes a week. in 10 days time the board arrived(socket looked perfect) and working flawlessly.
