I have been a fan of "run what you brung" for a long time, so its time to practice what I preach. I spent the last few days digging through all my hardware trying to find at least one 775 quad from a mountain of chips. The only thing I could find was a Xeon X5460 771, but I dont have any working P45 boards. All i have at the moment is X38/48 and that particular 771 chip will not boot with Intel X series chipset. Its unlikely I will find a P45 board, or 775 quad, but I am mildly looking. I still want to play so I will sub E8400 just for fun. mllrkllr88 / E8400 /Hyper DDR3 / 500.046 seconds With an X5460 You can work with a p35 even. Maybe You can't max it out but decenr clocks can be reached maybe. It's worth a try if You have the board.

Can already say it's really too hot to do any heavy benching without accomidations for it. Would have done much better except I had a core that was lagging big time and killed the result I got. Same story with my Q9550 and about everything else I tried that was a quad chip. The REX itself I know is a factor but it's all I have to run a quad in for now - Hoping sometime next week that will change.

Have a board coming to me for parts to try and fix it ATM, once it's here I can see what happens - Maybe I can breathe life back into it..... Maybe not but we'll see.

I hope you can I liked that board way better then the one I got now I feel that one only having 2 ddr3 slots makes it go better compared to 4 slot cause I'm pretty sure the mem controllers are split never messed with ddr2 in it

Beats the snot out of mine. In fact, I cannot get this cpu to unlock to a quad and stay there. The board seems to be very picky these past couple of days.
I can get it to unlock at a lower speed. If I overclock and it snags or hangs or BSODs, I loose the core for several attempts. Sometimes it'll post 4 cores, sometimes it won't driving me nuts lately.
Gotta get something on the water loop. This air cooling just isn't satisfying.

Up where you are things are better than here, even my tower ATM isn't doing all that great BUT believe I have the answer coming to me. This chip gets hot enough the third core starts dragging and falls WAY behind the others. If I had better ambients outside it would do better itself and I'm hoping the tower's new fan will boost it's cooling capability.

I think I have a killer Delta fan laying around here with 12" whip. would that help you? It screams pretty loud and moves large CFMs. Shoot me a addy in PM.

I have Delta AFB1212SHE. 120mm @ 190 CFM. Do not put your finger in it. It will remove large chunks of meat!

This one is supposed to be a 240 CFM unit, kinda like a miniature woodchipper.

I stuck my Lenovo T61p in the freezer since conditions are not ideal here for running benchmarks. I could manage 3.2Ghz on my core 2 duo X9000 @ 1.275 v core. Managed a blistering time of 825 seconds! EDIT: Now I'm really kicking myself for selling my core 2 Quad Q9550 a couple months back. Would have been fun to compete in both categories. Oh well, maybe I will pick one up before the competition ends... it's either that or a QX6850...
