I have an original "Weed-Eater", the carb needs to be re-built. I know nothing about that or that process (Just know seals are the devil lol). I just know that if I have the throttle at max it'll "run" but that's it. I remember when my parents bought it in the late 80's.. Once the garage workbench is put together (plan for early next year), I'd like to break it down and fix it. I know fuel injection, carb units are different and I've never gotten the knack to adjusting them... I have a Nitro car, that unit needs attention every season and I've completely given up on figuring it out... doesn't help the engine in mine is an odd duck (missing 1 adjustment compared to a mainstream unit that has 2) and the manufacturer of this engine has long gone bankrupt... the guy I used isn't around anymore either due to retirement... So this year is going to suck... or I break and spend the $$$ on a new mainstream engine.... but I'm not in a rush to go there... too many other things to neglect first...
I also have a Troy-Bilt weed-whacker. I opted for the larger one, but not the biggest that was available about 5 years ago. just need to put fuel in it (50:1), push the fuel bulb 5 times, choke, pull, starts... great unit. Rev's like a banshee, without gloves your arm WILL go numb after 30-45minutes of using it...

My snow blower is troy built. Also another garbage pick. The muffler eas falling off. Bolted iy back on. Electric start, runs like new.
When you need help vin, just ask. These guys are small engine pros!!

Vin if it runs on full throttle vinnie, sounds like a vacuum problem to me, on full throttle theres no vacuum, at idle and low revvs theres vacuum, those seals you mentioned are probably the culprits not sealing properly to allow the right vacuum at idle and low revvs

Tinkered around with this one and eventually got it running pretty good. Apparently these must be made at a higher altitude than where many users would be since these problems were from folks in lower altitude places like I am. Saw this after researching the problem this model has. Every user with problems like I have has said the carb adjustments were totally wacked and had to redo these to make it run right. I did the same and after a little of this it now idles and runs properly without having to leave it partially choked and takes the fuel instead of bogging/stalling when you go to throttle it up. If the unit from this point does fine then I'll run it alongside the older one I fixed last week - Looks like I'll never have to go out and get another. Next victim - And old Toro unit and if fixed that would make three I have to use.

i shouldve explained it a bit better vinnie, if the seals are not sealing right and theyre sucking air it will affect the vacuum pull inside the carby which will affect the idle and low speed running, at full throttle theres minimal vacuum ((nearly nil) so itll run ok like nothing is wrong, back off full throttle and the vacuum sets in again to draw fuel and mix with the air to lean the mix off to run at the right air fuel ratio for idle and low speed

my dad wasn't much of a mechanical guy (never saw him change a tire). I'd think he ran it lean which would dry out the seals right? I know fuel injected systems. I know the overall concept of a carb system with vacuum pulling the fuel in at idle, seal maintain that at idle vacuum. making adjustments is where I get lost as I've never had to do it, that's where I'd pull in youtube.edu and google.edu to figure it out.
parents gave me the unit cause my Dad couldn't keep it running, I popped in fuel to see if it would start and then I put it away.. that was 8+ years ago. I always thought of building a micro car with the engine... fun stuff...

Vin no vinnie, running it lean or rich wont affect the seals, theyre specially made neoprene seals, age tho does, if you run it too lean itll hurt the motor, not enough fuel to lubricate , ( if its a 2 stroke engine) too rich can wash the bore (too much fuel) fuel mixture ratio on a 2 stroke important, as the oil in the fuel is the engines lubricant, too little oil, (worn engine will result, too much oil itll smoke and wet the plug up and gunk it up with carbon shit, coz it cant burn it quick enough, 4 stroke engine , different story, too much fuel the fuel can and will run down the bore walls and into the oil sump and whats called make oil or increasing the sumps oil level, but basically the same prinicpals,

Went out this morning and tore into the Toro - Same basic stuff but a Toro is different than what I've been working with so far and parts aren't as easy to come by, esp since this is now an older model. Biggest thing ATM is in the fuel tank it has a rubber plug with two holes for the fuel lines to pass through, the plug is old and in need of replacement but no one seems to have one of these pieces locally.
The others were simpler with the holes only in the tank, harder to work with but at least you woudn't have another piece getting old to worry about. The tank itself is fine, no cracks or signs of plastic rot from age and that's good. I believe I can find it online somewhere and get it that way, maybe a spare piece or two for the future while I'm at it. All else I have and wasn't a prob to find in some generic form including the suction bulb.

Found, ordered and got in the tank gromlet I needed for the Toro edger. In fact I found a pack of 10 so went ahead and grabbed them since they were really cheap. Did the deed with the fuel lines and such and it fired up. Carb is gummed a little but nothing a bit of cleaning out can't take care of.
Then right after that confirmed the weedeater I fixed last week has a cracked fuel tank. Back to the work bench with that one but shouldn't take alot to fix it except just getting my hands on a good tank, in fact the engine that I bought may have a good one. Tank is there and didn't look busted or anything BUT it's old like the other and not wanting to trust it regardless of condition.

Looks like mowing season 2019 has started (Here) so I'm on it. The early growing stuff has started to sprout and if I don't start early myself the weeds and crap will outpace the grass I want, kinda happening already. Mower did OK after it had sat during the past few months. It does show signs the issue it had before may not be fully resolved, could be the engine is suffering some effects from what happened after all but for now it gets the job done. If I have to rebuild it, I can do that no prob. Small engines are just that, smaller versions of what most of us have worked on before anyway in our autos and not that bad overall. In a few weeks I'll have to replace the blades and do some minor maintenance work to get it fully ready for the coming mowing season. Next project is getting these weedeaters ready, fixed both that I have and the edger too last Fall and right after that they sat like the mower did. I think they'll be OK so I guess tomorrow or Sunday I'll try one and see how it does.

It's probably still snowing here too, at least on and off. Grass isn't exactly a common sighting until usually April, depending on how the winter's been anyways.

It's already warm enough here for it to be growing and the hours of daylight are increasing too, that makes it want to go and grow. The last time I was up in the Northern states area during spring I noted how things hadn't really began to grow (Mid-April) compared to what happens here and it's expected, we simply have warmer overall temps and longer hours of daylight too because of our lower lattitude. However all that works against us later in the year, through September at least.

Raining on and off here right now, temps are and will be in the high 60's to low 70's at least through tomorrow. Have alot of running around to do and I'm glad it's not like freezing cold out trying to do all that.

I have never seen snow " I'm dreaming of a white christmas" and it can stay that way. Everything you fella's describe sounds like a disaster, driving I bet all of ya's have had a bingle at one time or another on iced roads and putting salt on the road bet thats good for your cars Eddie said that beetles rust out I bet they aint the only cars that do they all would in time driving around in salt. Shovelling of snow and cleaning up after it ya's can have that too sounds like a lot of work to me. I will stick with the sun Thanks.

Nowadays? Screw that. A three foot snowbank in the middle of the road is enough work for our snow removal crews, since you'll see the big giant "twin-screw maw of doom" fill a large dump truck in no time... Why the middle of the road? They scrape it to the center in several areas in the city so then they just bring that biiiig bad boy in, and only slow down long enough for the next dump truck to get lined up - it isn't uncommon on really snowy days to see ten of them lined up behind said machine... Of course they do this at two in the morning. Thankfully it stopped waking me up ages ago, but still.
