just wanted to ask opinions on safe voltage, i been running this at 1.7 + to 1.8 with the opty 165 to try get the max from the opty, 3200 is the best i can do with it but isnt stable in a bench, 3186 its stable, think its run out of gas, but the venus seems not even to blink at the voltage and seems to be stable as and check the bios in hardware monitor and temps are good

Ozzy, how much your opty max clcok?(no load) i feel that 1.8v is pretty high, but please ignore the common sense in overclcoking, similar setting to other people might not be the best.
Some of my 939 cpu need to loose max A latency in high cpu frequency.

We both know 1.8v is too high Kotori-san. They will be short lived and degrade quickly or there will probably be another death soon (CPU that is) Another thing Shane the temp shown in the Bios has nothing to do with what the temp is when its running under load in fact the temp shown in the Bios is usually a CPU Tcase temp. The temp the actual CPU uses for shutdown and what Coretemp reads is the Tjunction temp. I know Scotty told you to believe the Bios but that was for voltage on one occasion and only when CPUz seemed way off but you have now taken that to heart and think its the only truth The Bios is Always Right .Well I am telling you the Bios is not always right the bios reads everything from the monitoring chip and the monitoring chip on the board can be badly calibrated and wrong, motherboards are massed produced and there can be a large variance from what one board will tell you and what another will even with the same brand / model board. The hardware monitor is the last place I would be looking for temp readings especially when you cant load it up while in the bios. Run Coretemp and load it up with Cinebench in windowed mode and see what Coretemp is saying you will be surprised how high it is @ 1.8v

354 fsb is the best i can get from the opty 165 stable, it just hasnt got any more without goin really volt crazy, and even if i did the cpu is done , a cpu can only give so much, when its done its done, no matter what volts im seeing, so all more volts would do is kill the board, i know i said im prepared to go full hog at it ...but..(common sense must prevail) good experts, venus, ultraD boards are hard to come by these days, and i have 2 of the 3 , not the expert, so , the better and more sensible option for me is to grab another cpu/s and have another go at it, there is plenty of time to do that and see what i get

I've had three of them. They are a decent board but the DFI boards kill them overall. I rank it second, maybe third along with the Abit AN8-SLI.

Great deal! The going rate here is around $75 USD. well actuall scotty i wasnt even lookin for it, i was watching his athlon 64 4800+ 939 socket cpu for $30 and was 1 hour to go and he messaged me to look at his other items and if i bought them he could put it all in 1 box for the same postage, he had the cpu with original heatsink, mobo and 2 x 1 gig legend ram, i couldnt see what chips were on the ram so he sent me a close up pic, and im sure i saw tc on them, they are double sided chips on the sticks so i looked them up and seems the double sided chips could be tccd, not sure, anyway no one bid with 1.2 hour to go so i offered him a price for the lot, $75 with $25 included for express post as i wanted to get the cpu to try for the comp as well , i really wanted the cpu to replace for pete as the fx-60 chip died here the other week and he said he reckons the fx-60 are over rated anyway, hed prefer a 4600 or 4800 + so this chip is his after i try it out to see how it goes

A8N-SLI premium the max vcore is 1.6v without a voltmod. A8N-SLI32 Deluxe is the best Asus board to get. But dont worry Shane it was a great buy and nothing a Vmod wont fix.

Ozz, if I'm understanding your problem right you accidentally wiped a drive you had stuff like drivers, BIOS files and the like on. I use one of these to archive all of my stuff on, it has a powerswitch on the back so you can turn it on or off whenever you want so it isn't accessible when you don't need it yet can leave it hooked up to the PC. You can switch it on or off with the PC running too so it's very handy - When done using it just turn the drive off with the switch and it's automatically ejected and doesn't bother the drive or the system itself at all. I have mine with the switch and ports facing me so the status/activity light doesn't blind me (It's very bright) and I can see the light on the wall right behind it no prob. If you eventually decide to get one be sure to check and see what ports it has, some have SATA 3.0 only, some have USB with eSATA, ect so be sure whatever you get is useable for what interfaces you use. I'd also at the very least grab a 1TB drive so it will take awhile to run out of storage space, the larger you can get the better for you. www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1UH4MK4031

ust arrived the third little princess ! I started to advertise for this boards and so I can buy another one. I'm so happy now ! It was very cheap. About 13 Dollars. The seller didn't realise how rare things are they nowadays. None of my cpus tolerate over 1.65 Volts but it can big differences about it I think. Actually the contact between the ihs and the chip are pretty bad till now. I got near 200 mhz advantage with my 4000+ Athlon in Spi32 with better contact only. The lowering in delta T was amazing ! On the best run it was clu on the core and I press the waterblock of the chiller directly to the chip without ihs. I had 1 digit delta on coretemp!! hwbot.org/submission/3250949_alpi_superpi___32m_athlon_64_4000_(san_diego)_21min_45sec_16msThat was the run. And unfortunatelly I killed that chip under disassembly. I'm going to try some kind of contact upgrade on my Opteron 165 soon. But with with back-mounted ihs now.
