Must be doing these at the national events. Closest to me would be either Lebanon Valley or Maple Grove. I've run at both of those tracks before. For those of you who already didn't know, I ran a pro gas drag bike for 10 years when I was a kid. Like these. This promo vid is period specific, around 1985, which would be right around the time I was into it big. Paul Gast is a friend of mine. I visited his place in Grand Island NY about once a week. lol Had a FBG 165hp motor on my last bike. Low 9's in the 1/4 @ 156mph. Those were the days.

Impressed, mostly dirt or trials riding, grew up in Nevada so no speed limits or noise laws outside the city limits. Late 60's early 70's lots of muscle floating around more informal comps.

Me. Sorry for the potato pic. Shitty camera back then and I scanned it. This was at Empire in NY about 1/2 an hour from where I live. That was my second bike. I had three. This one I totaled at Cicero.

Totaled on a bike ain't a happy word usually means a little personal down time. At the finish line, I blew a front tire. As soon as the rim hit the ground I was an end over end pinwheel. This was at around 150mph. While sliding on the pavement I watched the bike fly right over the top of me. Never touched me. I got lucky. Got away with a really bad kidney bruise and a little road rash on my shoulder. I was more pissed that I wrecked a thousand dollar set of leathers and a brand new 400 dollar Simpson helmet that I just had painted. I had it on my head like three times. There was nothing left of the bike except the carbs and the air shifter. The rest was junk. I had about 20K in that bike. I built the third bike about 3 weeks later.

Crazy stuff bikes. I knew a lot of Evil Knievel types in my youth. I watched a friend of mine run circles around a police car that was chasing him at 80MPH and then he jumped over the police car several times and disappeared into the sunset at well over 100MPH into the next state. Crazy things those machines. I'm so glad you're still here to talk about your experiences Scotty. Those machines are very dangerous. I sold my bike some years back and won't go back to them.

Next Door Kid was one that I had sponsored his Calf when he was 4H in high school; He got in another wreck and it was on his dirt bike at a race. This time he was not hospitalized but he busted up his ribs on the right side. I was hoping he would stop that now that he has two little girls. One of the guys I was stationed with at Moffett Field in the 70's lost it and went sliding across the road; He did not have on a motor cycle helmet. He was wearing his Air Crew helmet and the helmet was totaled when he ran into the concrete curb on the other side of the road. He got up and walked away ? Lucky man. You too,Scott!!!

I like that little cylinder borer in the Video cute. When I left school I worked as an automotive machinist for 11 yrs at a place called Lynx corporation they were the sole importers into Australia of American High performance parts at the time. Brands such as Holley, Edelbrock, Crane, TRW, Wiseco, Mallory to name a few. We used to have AMC SCHOU Cylinder borer, Line Borer, Conrod borer, Crank grinder, Surface Grinder, Sunon CK10 Cylinder hone, Sunon Conrod honer, and Schenck balancers. I used to be mainly into powerboats which kept me broke only being payed a wage so got out of it completely. Done an Electronics course and started repairing TV / Video but that died after 2000 with flat screens people just buy another when they stop in fact the whole TV repair industry has died. Now I just repair computers.
They certainly were the good old days though.

Youngest daughter bought a 69 and literally almost made it inside a mortuary through the front door with it (got a wreckless out if it). Picked up the 68 at a charity auction down where I worked, body was pretty straight but ended up having to replace or repair everything on the dirty side of the car engine back. Personally easier to turn a wrench than do body work. More show than go work done, my last project car and probably 20 years ago now. Posted this before but not sure where.

I've never cared for fast bikes - Cars are one thing and dangerous enough but a bike.... Nah.
Had a classmate killed less than 2 months after graduating high school, was running fast on a crotch rocket and hit a curve with some slag in it.... Off the road, slid through someone's yard and went under the house that had a brick wall of skirting around the bottom. You know who/what won that round and I don't care to play that game myself - What I have is fast enough (Shadow 750).
