I'm going to do it.. and I'm not telling the wife.. my local computer store has a sale on the 1700X and is selling it for the price of a 1700 (fittingly). so with saving that $90 puts and the MB has $30 off so a rig upgrade to under $1000 and that's enough to convince me to do it. Here's my question; I'm going with the Asus ROG Crosshair VI Hero because it has the AM3 holes and I can mount my existing cooler. the Asus QVL list for RAM in the 3200CL14 range is small, but I'm looking at GSkill's site and they seem to have more info as to what RAM will work with what boards.. Should I trust the GSkill site for having the ram I'm looking at on their site? This RAM isn't on the Asus QVL list. I just don't want to have issues when putting this together. Thoughts? Vin

G.Skill is very good about making all their products at least compatible. I would not worry about that at all. If you did have a problem, their CS is outstanding and fast. They have never let me down yet. Your ram choice for Ryzen would be mine also.

I REALLY WANTED LED RAM.... But unfortunately for me it only works on intel boards... Ah shucks... lol.. HAHAHA... IMHO, LED's in PC's like how they are doing it these days is like putting HP stickers on a car... it's too much and is in poor taste. I have an LED strip in my case, but I only use it when I'm working on it... built in trouble light.. lol Vin

I have led ram in my daily. Only because I wanted that particular type of IC chipped ram and that's the only way it came. Not a fan of light shows inside my box.

Got the Rig setup on my desk on the box.. wow is this Bios so much different than I'm used too... Had fun with lockups at Boot. had to figure out how to do a FlashBack to get the Bios up. that's a neat useful feature. once in the Bios, I've had to lower the Voltage on the CPU, default from the MB was 1.515vCore.. I've got it down to 1.35v right now. I don't know why Auto would plow that much voltage to the CPU. My Bios temps were near 60 degrees.. after the voltage change was sitting at 40-45 degrees, which is fine with the small cooler I have on there (Cooler Master 212 Evo). I'm running the RAM in Auto atm. wasn't able to get 3200Mhz just cold boots, working on tuning it up to 3200 after work today. while idle at work I'll be doing lots of reading. seems the 3200mhz strap on this board just doesn't work from the few articles and vids I've found. Once I can get it to 3200Mhz then I'll start the transplant to the Main Rig. I'm also revamping my cooling loop. I have a new HeatKiller Res and can mount my D5 pump on it. looking forwards to cleaning that up. I was never happy with my water loop and how I had to sandwich it into my case. I'll start a build post to show the before and after. I'll keep using this thread if/as I need help working on the Ram Timing/Freq Vin

Flash the latest bios onto it Vin 3200 ram shouldnt be a problem what are the timings for that ram. My one with the TridentZ 3600's would do 3200 13-13-13-28 my TridentZ 4266 do 3200 12-12-12-28. The ram settings on them are simple there are about 6 settings for you to play with a modern intel board has about 50. I have to look at my Outlook email in the morning to see if I have got a response from AMD on my CPU RMA.

I'm running GSkill Flares, they're 3200Mhz at CL14 14-14-14-34. I don't know if they are 1T or 2T though? I'm guessing 2T (that would be safe anyway)
I'm just starting with it and going from X58 and older Bios to this is a bit of a culture shock. also I've never been a fan of the Bios layout's on Asus boards. I always found that they put items in the wrong spots as I grew up overclocking on Gigabyte/EVGA boards and that was always my go-to up until X58.
I'm running Bios 1701.
I'm hoping to install Windows10 and do some small tests (no overclock, just get the RAM to 3200mhz are the rated speeds as the CPU HS I have on there isn't up this CPU)
once I'm at the ram speeds, and everything seems stable, then I'll tear down my main rig and start the transplant. I'd hate to be premature and have a failure/RMA and be without a rig again.

I have absolutely no idea what I can be doing wrong All you guys hitting 3200+ with DDR4. No matter what I try or no matter what way I go to OC the ram divider or fsb raise volts as soon as I hit anything over 3197 system wont boot. goes into the never ending boot attempt loop . The ram stix I have are: G. Skill Trident-Z RGB 8g x 2 (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR) G. Skill Flare-X 8g x 2 (F4-3200C14D-16GFX) Says compatible with Ryzen G. Skill Ripjaws-V 16g x 2 (F4-3200C16D-32GVK) G. Skill Trident-Z 8g x 4 (F4-3466C16Q-32GTZSW) Tried to hit 3200 on Maximus IX Apex X99s Xpower Titanium Crosshair VI Hero I have yet to try running em in my Zeneth Extreme It probably has something to do with one of those volt settings I'm not familiar with. Anyway; any tips/suggestions on what I can try?

I've read on the Hero (can't find the post right now) that under the extreme setting in the bios there is a DRAM boost voltage. you need to set that at 1.4V to start and can go as high as 1.45v. Then after boot the voltage will go to the normal DRAM voltage. secondly on the Hero, don't bother with the 3200mhz multiplier, I've read the issue is fixed and many complaining that it isn't. so you have to go 1 strap lower then clock up your blk to get there.. this is just what I've read today. I'll be trying it when I get home in 3 hours. Vin

I can hit 3200 on my x99, but is using one of the pre set OC profiles. and when using a pre set cant see what settings were used and cant tweak/adjust much. Will delv deeper into the bios when I run it again.

Nope, most of those same settings are closed or greyed out when I choose a pre set OC. I can set XMP with or without the pre set OC, its independent.

Vin I am quoting this post as I have both of you here Frank X99 the Broadwell IMC is flatout at 3200 you wont see much over 3466 from anyone if you get 3000 to 3200 out of your ram be happy and concentrate on timings. Enable 100/133 and odd divisor although with a MSI board I wouldnt know what they have in there bios it shoudnt be to hard to get to 3000 and tighten your timings. The Apex 3200 should be a walk in the park use the first set you have listed: G. Skill Trident-Z RGB 8g x 2 (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR) It does have 100/133 and odd divisor use both and start at 3200 it should do it easy one thing I dont know if they are Bdie but being 8G sticks I would say they probably are. Ram voltage dont be scared of it especially if they are Bdie try 1.6v. I run my 4266 G.skill at 1.8v 14-14-14-28 4000mhz in the Apex all the time and other people run them up to 2v. CrosshairVI When Ryzen came out 3200 wasnt a given it was more like 2666 improved bioses have changed that the reason I say run the latest bios on it. In fact the latest bioses go a lot higher than 3200 but still isnt a given I would be happy with 3200 to start and for higher raise the baseclock one thing of note above about 107 mhz drop the PCIe down to Gen2 otherwise its known you will have trouble getting higher base clocks. The Crosshair has a very simple bios there is only about 6 ram settings that you can set it does have odd divisor and 100/133 from memory. it has been a while since I have played with Ryzen in fact I didnt get a lot of time tuning it it was straight into competitions cold. Welcome to DDR4

That was my issue, under Advances Memory Setting in the Bios I bumped DRAM Boot Boost to 1.4v and there I am... 3200mhz at stock timings. I wonder what else I can do... just downloaded a current version of Memtest86.. But is there a reliable windows application that I could use to verify memory stability while in Windows? Vin

With a blck of 106.6mhz using the 3200Mhz strap I'm at 3414Mhz on the RAM and currently running Memtest86. I had tried the 3333mhz strap with 100mhz blck but it failed?
why would that strap fail, but I can blck up past that memory freq?
just using this small cooler I don't want to blck up any more. I'm still at 1.3vcore. but idle this puppy is at 32 degrees. with this small cooler this is heaven to me... with my big cooling loop, idle on my 980x is 40-45 degrees...
Vin
EDIT: got some errors... backed off the blck back to 105 and upped the DRAM voltage from 1.35 to 1.375. re-started the testing

yea take pics of it or better yet what mobo you have and I will google the bios and look at SS of it MSI X99S XPOWER GAMING TITANIUM/USB3 ok I that will have the same bios as mine I will do some testing with the XMP and timings but it might be as Pete said 3200mhz might be maxed out with BW-E which mem are you using again? I see the list I guess you are having issues with all those getting them to 3200mhz? or thats maxed out even for the 3466mhz set you got?
