I picked up this D830. it's got the T7100 CPU, 2GB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HDD, 1200x800 Display and nVidia graphics, the battery is still good and holds a change for about an hour and it didn't come with an original charger but a Chinese replacement. it'll charge the battery.. I'm happy
it's loaded with Win10 Pro 64Bit and Office 2010.
I bought it for $120.
I'm wondering about replacing the screen for the available 1920x1200 and change out the CPU for the T7800, maybe max the RAM to 4GB... I might also see about getting a dock.. but who knows.
I mainly bought it for the Serial port on it. For some of the legacy stuff I've run in to at work, using a USB-RS232 just isn't cutting it. I need a native RS232 port. The other reason is the Full PC Card Slot. Can't get those anymore and there are no available adapters...
I'm also looking to swap out the HDD and pop in either a 7200RPM drive or maybe get a 120GB SSD. I know it's only SATA1, but an SSD I think would still help with the snappiness of the system? I've never used an SSD in SATA1. I'll install WinXP 32bit or maybe Win7 and Office 2003.
This laptop fully loaded around out here goes for $250-$300... so if I can get the upgrades for near $100-150CAD I'm a happy camper.
I did find this replacement screen, but he won't ship to CAN www.ebay.ca/itm/Dell-Latitude-D820-D830-15-4-WUXGA-1920x1200-Complete-LCD-Screen-Displace/322269990866?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
This is the CPU I was thinking of getting; www.ebay.ca/itm/Original-Intel-Core-2-Duo-T7800-2-6-GHz-Dual-Core-LE80537GG0644M-Processor-CPU/282189265640?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
I'm not big on waiting for PC's so if I can get it to it's prime.best I'll be really happy.
Thoughts?
