so what, if anyone has a 939 cpu that does 3.5 or 6 id rather have it in a dfi than an asus 939 anyday, the dfi will handle more consistent anything you give it , go look on bot ffs, go look in any 939 comp, where are all the top scores and points come from, what board ?? dfi or asus, you might be lucky and got a good one, thats the silicone lottery, get off your arse, get it out and lets see what it and you can do with it then 939 comp shrimp is puttin on next month, and ill leave it at this this is petes , and it a cracker lol you dont show up to a gun fight with a knife...do ya No prob, I'll be there and see what it's got this time. Only thing I'll run into is the issue with low RAM speeds, that I can't fix until I get another PSU in place. As for 3.5 or better, won't have it that high on water with these warmer temps around too.

The run I did at over 3.5GHz was done on DICE - Illegal for this comp.

The run I did at over 3.5GHz was done on DICE - Illegal for this comp. why is the psu affecting ram speed ?

Most likely a difference on one of the rails in terms of voltage/amperage that the DFI's want more than this PSU is giving. All I can say for certain is with this PSU it just won't "Go' like it used to with any and all the DFI"s I have - That rules out anything related to a specific chip, board or set of sticks, does it with all of them regardless and the loss of the older PSU being the key event of it all.

Those PSU testers tell you jack shit they measure the voltage under a very light load all they tell you is that there is voltage there. I dont have one and wouldnt waste my money on one.

here is a way to test your PSU if you wanna take the trouble to do it

|
Post by ozz on May 30, 2017 0:22:18 GMT -5
yeah i know they cant and dont measure under load but my point was if youre not gettin the right voltage with no load you arent gunna get it with load are ya ??, its told me a few psus i got here arent right with no load so theres no way im gunna use em purely for the rear bench frame that runs fans, pump etc am i ??

Is the Abit KN8-SLI any good? Only reason I'm considering it is that there's one for sale down literally the street from me.
It's an entire system, Opty 180, 4GB ram, Abit KN8-SLI, Enermax 460W (35A on both the 3.3V & 5V rails).
Doesn't seem to bad anyway, doesn't have all the extra oc'ing features, but I can probably get it for a good price.

They are not a bad board I used to have one once.

He's asking $280 (CAD) for it, what do you think it's worth? I was thinking maybe $200 ish.

150 tops.

You could offer him $200 for it or look for a DFI board. From memory it should have the OC features you need.

Offer 150 and he can keep the PSU. 12v rail is all that matters on even 939. 3.3v and 5v matters only on the older platforms.

I will see what he says about $200. It comes with an HD 6750, NZXT Lexa case, HDD & Win XP installed too, So I think that's fair.
Edit: I already have an Evga 850 B2 for my bench rig so using the psu from that system is not needed, but it may be useful for older stuff.

Offered $225 but the psu in the system just died so he knocked off $50 which doesn't hurt my feelings any.

Jon-san, Is a background for this comp necessary?

Just a "quick" run on air to get used to the platform. Water will be for later once I get the mounting figured out. DR4G00N / Opteron 180 @ 3GHz / Corsair XMS TCCD @ 250MHz / 24m 58.203s

Nice chip ! Very good vcore for 3 Ghz on air ! It has pretty high multiplier too so it can be cooled well with a bit luck !

Yes, the chip seems pretty good on air, I think it'll go lower on the vcore too @ 3GHz. It came with an Arctic Freezer 64 pro so temps hit 48c on core #2 with those settings.
These cpu's are pasted not soldered right?
