Not retail anyway. That is probably an ES board hand picked and sent as a review sample. mmm interesting, he reckons hes got 4 of these boards in the box, ridiculous prices tho, like all of his stuff lol and i told him

Are you sure he just didn't re-cap a bunch of boards with solids to try to spur interest and charge more? If he has more than 1, I'm sure that's what's going on.

Excuse me fellas, where did you see solid caps? I've checked both Ebay and Techarp links and can't seem to find them. If your talking about those 4 silver input caps on the CPU 12V rail, they are simple aluminum caps. You can even guess the vent on them on this one - archive.techarp.com/review/ABIT_NF7_S/Capacitors_big.jpg - see this irregularities on top, those lighter grey lines? Yep, sometimes electrolytic caps have a foil wrap, not a plastic one. And second - yes, there is such a thing as media sample, when hardware going to media is better than retail ones. I have photos of a media P4C800-E - all missing capacitors are in place on it. Saved for future cap mod.

It was me that thought sold caps looking through the plastic bag I know the caps you mean Alex. But I agree with Scotty its some sort of sample or something as in the 8 or so boards I have had none have had those caps on them just the normal plastic wrapped electros.
Interesting with the P4C800 Alex and the missing caps my P4T-F needs recapping I have ordered Panasonic OS-CON solid caps for it and I am going to populate the missing spots for the VRM.

O.K. so this is what I've meant. The only pic I could find is a soviet cap but there are new ones like it: www.cniga.com.ua/index.files/image1509.jpgThey have same vents as usual ones and are in all ways the same, just the wrapping is different. More interesting are these: nevor.ru/nvfiles/editor/medium/379_100101.jpgyou see vents on the bottom ones? They are not solid but the do look like ones. Be aware of these, they tend to be installed on videocards along with solid caps (usually solid on GPU and these aluminum on memory power). Macs, I've seen pictures of P4T media sample too. All those ceramic caps above memory slots and tantalum were in place. These Abit boards might be not sample ones - I have a Intel D815 board with these, tried to find photos on the Web because taking a photo of mine would take time - and they all seem to have usual plastic wraps. I think it's just a certain batch of boards that got a certain batch of caps.

Where did you see 2 phase power? I see 3 phase on all NF7.

Where did you see 2 phase power? I see 3 phase on all NF7. in the link but i read it completely wrong, that was my fault mate, sorry, after reading it properly again, it says abit use the 3 phase switching voltage regulator, as superior to the 2 phase power solution used by some other manufacturers, old story, measure twice cut once, in this case for me read 3 times and post once , sorry for the confusion, i took it as abit used 2 phase then switched to the 3 phase to use with the new caps, my bad

You are exactly right Alex. The caps just havent got a plastic sheath around them but they have got the vent stamps on the top of them a giveaway that they are electolytic. Electolytic caps use a gel electrolyte in them its the brown shit that leaks out of them when they go bad. Solid caps use solid Polymer in them and has nothing to do with the external appearance.

I've got one of those NF7-S V2.0 with the metal caps.
They are retail boards , not review samples.

I'm thinking it's most likely you see a difference in cap styles/types due to laws about what can or cannot be used with pieces of equipment, such as it was probrably OK here at the time to use the older style caps but not so elsewhere making the use of solid caps mandatory with each piece when sold new. Would boil down to something enviromental in nature regarding the law(s) within any given country where it was sold in such a case.... If so.

They are the same electrolytic caps they just havent got plastic jackets on them but they have the vent stamp in the top they are just electrolytics not solids.

The real difference between the two are the bios options. The B version is much more overclockable. The A version was like a beta version of the B.

I have both versions and yes, the B is better. The A version isn't "bad" and can be used in certain situations too, certainly has options to use as well but the B version is the one you'd really want if you can get it.

My bad - The good all black RAM slots versions are indeed version 1.2, not 1.1. Went and looked at mine to confirm and it's a 1.2 version. It's had the VDD mod applied and yes it will go to at least 245 on the bus - It's been awhile since I've ran it but I do recall it doing fairly well. The man has spoken - Leave it be. There were ver. 2.0 boards with all black slots. THOSE are the one's to find. Wow ! So a 2.0 dressed in black is something above the pack ?

I've heard from more places that blue ram slotted usually does better than black. Nowadays I was started to find a backup Nf-7, found this board with black slots but ok, it will be ok for a case of any emergency. Now as I'm searching in the forum, read Scotty's post, that black slot boards aren't a bit worse but better than others. After the first test, the good info is coming from here (as many times before ) All my Nf-7's can do 230-235 bench stable without looseing the ram. This board is rock stable at 250, don't want to believe at first what I see. Insane, I'm so happy ! Actually it outperforms my An7 even. Do we know why these black slotted boards performing better ? Some Pcb differency or another rev. of chipset ?

Is the ram at 1:1?

Post by alpi on Apr 26, 2019 9:07:33 GMT -5
Yes, you can see in the cpu-z valid link I posted earlier. If I change lower, it was booting and go os easy with 255 fsb but we know how it performs... With tight 2-2-2 ram I'm sure it would lost some fsb because my geils on 2,5-3-3 was turned a bit unstable above 490-495.
