so i just bought her is she the correct one? i was buying an abit an8 for a lan-party purpose machine that i'm building, and the seller bundled some stuff as "gratis", including this board, as you see one cap is missing but i can fix that easily.

nice man , well done, good board too, think from memory the venus / expert the memory slots run horizontally across the board between the back plane and the cpu socket, the ulta D run down the side of the socket vertically like yours

which cap is it missing? and do you know it's farrad/voltage rating?
I see 4 spots where it looks like caps once lived (or place holders)... But there are also place holders for SATA ports and other devices...

And he has even got the cap I wonder why it is out of the board. Thats the cap I thought was missing from the first post.
Vin I am sure the SLI board has the sata raid ports. To run SLI on the Ultra D you have to take the chipset cooler off and bridge a pair of solder spots there is a missing zero ohm resister on the wafer of the chip. Other than that the boards are identical in regards to SLI

this guy was also selling some electronics books and things like that, probably he desoldered the cap but never bothered coming back to it. We'll see how it goes. I didn't know about the SLI mod Pete, thanks for letting me know. if i get her running we'll surely get to do that. And ozzy sure, post yours

Scotty will know if they are good could be alright. What you want is a good set of Winbond BH5 and run them at about 3.6v. Samsung TCCD are good too will run at faster speeds but with looser timings and only like 2.8-2.9v anymore is not good for any long term use and will degrade or destroy them. One thing find and download a manual for that Ultra D and read what it says about enabling the 4v memory option you are supposed to turn off the power supply before you do it. One of my Ultra D boards the option dont work anymore because I didnt do that. Not to worry I have 4 of them and a Venus.

So, no voltmods needed for 3,6V? what a kickass board

if DFI still made public/desktop boards today that would be my 1st choice in motherboards for sure, sadly they dont, they only do industrial now anyway its my first go to look for board in any platform , theyre tough , reliable, good clockers and just a beaut board overall, but are ram picky and there bios terminolgies is another thing altogether lol, reckon i drove pete just about mad with it

Yep no voltmods required the jumper is up on the top right hand corner next to the end of the memory slots disabled it will go up to 3.2v enabled it will go up to 4v. As well as enabling the jumper you have to have the CPU set to a manual voltage before the 4v will come into play.

lookin for some sticks to get for her... should i go for these? Infineon BE-5 Not the best choice but they'll do 250-260 @ 2.5-3-2-5 @ 2.8v

I'm taking a guess here but could be TCCD sticks - Great for high clocks with the right settings.
My set of Patriot PDC1G4000ELK sticks are TCCD and even with their default timings of 3-4-4-8 they have ran over 300 with 2.5-3-3-7 timings used. Those look to be a similar set and with the right tweaks should fly if they are any good. Also I'd leave the jumper at the top-right of the board where it is with TCCD sticks, no need to enable extra RAM voltage with TCCD sticks, it's BH-5 sticks that want the extra volts to run. True you don't have to run the extra voltage even with it moved but as a safety precaution vs a brain-fart I'd leave it as is.
With BH-5 sticks I'd volt 'em up as desired but have a fan blowing on them when you do.
BTW for the board itself DFI's are picky about what PSU's are used with them, noted with mine after I had to replace the PSU I had been running (Tt 850W) my ability to clock up was affected. Still goes but it doesn't behave the same as before.
Mr. Scott can certainly tell you exactly what PSU to run with it for best results.

They are XL's. All XL's are TCCD. Of all of the last kits you've shown, these are the best one.
