the other DQ6 just arrived, different NB cooler on this one, its much bigger, unfortunately and i dunno how they guy took the crazycool plate off the back it to fit an aftermarket cooler, which he didnt need to do anyway and hes lost it, so i got a reduced price to $40 delivered instead of $88.50 so i changed the one over off my original board, that raised section is actually and extension cooler off the VRMS and it sits on top of the NB cooler,

The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections www.ebay.com.au/itm/122232294613?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I take it the USB keyboard and mouse are working? if so the USB ports are working. plug a USB flash drive into a USB port and see if it will pick it up. Wouldnt be the first board I have seen that wont pick up a USB hard drive. The drives current draw is over the USB2 spec of 500mA. Its one of the reasons a USB2 external hard drive usually has 2 plugs on the computer end to plug into 2 ports to share the load. My Asrock AM2 board my XP computer that I am typing on now struggles to pick up my USB external hard drive sometimes I give up and use my other computer.
Try the short cable that came with your new drive case that 6 foot long cable wouldnt be helping and plug it into a backplane port not one of the header extensions that you have been using.

Thats strange the drive wont read in your daily there is something wrong with the drive then its the external usb case i bought a couple of weeks ago, doing the same as the 1 you changed over pete, took it out of the case and plugged in the other sata usb plug and the drive shows up on the daily, the 1 you got there might turn out to be a faulty 1 as well

Ok no worries. On a side note I have to use a second hard drive connected to a sata port to install USB drivers for Z170 for Win 7 because the windows 7 disk doesnt have USB drivers for Z170. With XP on Z170 I have to use a VIA USB card in a PCIe x1 slot as their are no XP chipset drivers for the board period. Win 10 is ok with most of the drivers straight off the disk

I know I understand that. You have got the drive out of the case if so get another sata cable and plug it into a sata port and connect a power cable. Then when you start it up the drive will be there in "My Computer" E drive. You can just leave it connected and install everything from it, your drivers CPUZ benches they are all on the drive it will work the same as when its on USB.
That will get you going till we sort something out on the weekend

first go ive had at this but i reckon its got usb problems, usb flash drives get hot in the rear ports, 4 are dead now, now none of em work, also i think its what killed the usb external case pete, theres a short im sure, no other reason fir the usb flash drives to get hot, theres no drivers needed in hardware manager either for usb, so theyre all there, no yellow things, the only way now to get a screenie is send it to the main hdd that you changed over at your place then use the ssd usb plug here on the daily , im too worried if i try a usb port again itll blow that too

Ok it seems to have a problem turn your benching table around a bit so you can look at the USB ports on the back of it make sure they all look good and none of the tongues are broken off.

The back plane ports are usually better than those USB extensions you use on the headers. I have been wondering for a while now when the drive wouldnt work on those but seeing as it doesnt work on the backplane ports you have a real problem.

Ok thats good. Tell me are you still using a USB Keyboard and Mouse the usb ports next to the ps2 tower work, but, sometimes when it goes to the black screen with white writing and says whatever and windows will restart in 20 seconds i think and it has the second counter going i hit enter on the keyboard and it wont go into the reboot cycle to go to windows each time i press, i have to wait for the seconds to count down to 0 and it goes in then by itself
