gotta say, this board is an absolute ripper, ive lost a few gigabyte boards and in the past had no faith in em, but since the 990fxa - ud3, now this and the ep45 - ud3r i cant complain about these 1 bit, cracker boards

Looks like you are having fun with it. Tell me have you gotten into the ram timings? I noticed with the PD915 you are running at 4-4-4-21 Not sure about the 21 though.

Jesus you made me think there Scotty. I just went and looked and his Cinebench sub shows 12 I thought WTF how did I get that wrong, then looked at his SPI clocked slightly faster sub and yep its a 21. hwbot.org/submission/3373596_

what i cant seem to find is how to change from 2T to 1T in the bios, even when i hit cntrl and F1 for advanced i dont see it, i dont see anything there about command rate, unless im readin it wrong

Gigabyte calls it something different and not having the BIOS open can't remember what. Doing 1T on P35/45 X38/48 ddr2 board can be hard to do once speed gets above a certain point but working from memory not recent experience.
Sorry I lied the board I'm using now has it as Command Rate in the advanced memory section but settings are 0, 1, 2 etc 0 is auto.

You will find it hard to do 1T on P35/P45

Gee Shane it sounds positive Quote: Warning: Even though these boards have been out a while they are still not what I would call mature and bios revisions are still being released. I do not have one of these boards so my information is all from 2nd sources which I document either at the point of use or in the "References" section I will include. See "Disclamier" above. He doesnt even own one he is talking from heresay. And the Anand link is for X58 Although I am not trying to shoot you down I think its great that you are reading about it read more there are plenty more guides out there (must be the new glasses ) Reading then running your own tests is how you will learn. Keep it up

Thats normal if you have got the ram speed really low say under 800Mhz it will go to 1T otherwise it will automatically revert to 2T no matter what you set. They have good bios timings 2T usually does pretty good anyway.

Keep it up yes i saw the link was for x58, but the point he was making is the motherboard producers cant even get basics working properly and they want to know how it overclocks well compared to other manufacturers, how the hell is it gunna operate well or even overclock well if the basics and bios settings arent right in the first place ,same old story, make the board with all the bling and dodads and well fix the basic operational issues later ........money....then they wonder why they get pisshouse reviews and consumer dissatisfaction issues lol

Gigabyte boards work good as you are finding out and the bioses are easy to use compared to some I cant really understand what he means get the basics right. The basics work good on them and the reviews at the time wearn't bad. Maybe he dont understand what things mean it was written in 2008 when they would of came out. In fact he is very short on information, his explanation thread with a few reserved posts with nothing in them he hasnt explained much. And dont worry about reading about x58 on Anand its a completely different architecture it will only confuse you. I will explain your Bios meaning questions on the weekend when we are in front of it.

well the DQ6 was good while it lasted, thank christ it wasnt an expensive buy, i dunno why bit it was going fine, i changed the cpu to a E2160 i bought a few months back and have never tried it out, was in windows and at 3.4 gig at 1.5v, i havent had it above 1.52 v since ive had it, then it just shut down and wouldnt start, it tried to reboot itself but goes click , click, when it tries to start, we had thunder and lightning just b4 this happened and i thought i mightve got a power surge but everything else was still going, all the fans and pump, are from the same power plug thru a surge protector hooked up to the main bench rig psu and the other psu in the case behind the bench rig to power the fans, pump etc , then thought the cpu may have just died, so i put a E6750 in it , same thing, click click, when it clicks i can see the gpu fan wanting to start but wont, pretty pissed off actually coz its been goin like a train, i really liked this board and for $46 with postage it was a bargain, cant see anything obviously wrong, spose i better pull the heatsinks off to see if its done a vrm first up

Awww shit thats no good I was looking forward to playing with it. Cycling it sounds like a short. Try pulling the 8 pin CPU power and firing it up and see if it will keep running.

you say aww shit, i said a lot harder than that pete , think the whole street heard me , i was afraid youd say it was a short, im setting up the 45 for water and i cant use the apogee gt block on it, what a great block they are, works so well on the DQ6, but on the EP45 UD3R the end where the hole is for a 939 board hits the VRM heatsink, i took the gigabyte logo heatsink cover off the heatsink thinkin it'd give me more room but nope, the only way is to grind the end down to miss it but i really dont want to disfigure the block, tried it the other way and it hits the NB heatsink and the VRM heatsink on the right hand side of the board near the 8 pin plug,, so i tried the evo block and thats a bugger too coz the nickel plate is 58mm x 58mm and its right up close to the capacitors on the right side so its a shit and not givin me enough area to insulate it with foam to stop condensation gettin down to the bottom of the caps that are there, i cant win so i thought instead of grindin the block ill grind the heatsink, its only alloy then the apogee gt should fit nicely and will be hardly noticeable and ill think about how to fit the evo later

That sounds good grind away. I would probably have cut down the plate for the heatsink you have got 2 blocks and 3 plates one AMD and 2 intel ones. But either way would work.

Did you clear the CMOS? If it crapped out on the 2160 and you just swapped chips to the 6750, it'll still try to boot at the settings that it last remembered, which is probably a no go. You can't rely on the startup saying 'overclock failed' to let you set up the bios again.
The shutdown could have been caused by anything....heat or power related. The 2160 may just be dead, but the board might be fine, just a bad bunch of settings or a corrupted bios. I'd be willing to bet that the board is fine.

the aluminium on the heatsink is harder than first thought, i havent the right gear small enough , tried my 2 stones i have in the makita drill, just not doin the job right, the alloy laughs at it, ill go on with the evo
@ scotty, i cleared the bios several times, try to restart it and it goes the click sound, the gpu fan tries to start then nothing, turn the power off, wait a min, try again the same, its off the rig now and the battery out, when i finish the p45 insulation setup ill put another cpu and the air cooler back on it and retry it

just retried the dq6 with a known worker cpu, E6500, same thing, pulled the 8 pin plug and the gpu spins up no probs, hopefully it maybe just a vrm blown and not a serious short somewhere, ill pull the heatsinks off and have close look

Ok they look like they could be another pair of Mosfets cant be sure till I actually see them though. Question: In the bios its got a voltage setting called FSB overclocking what voltage was you giving that with the pentium D's in there? I have a funny feeling that is the same as termination / VTT (voltage termination transistors which are termination Transistors in the CPU for the FSB). The reason I ask is P4/D dont mind 1.55v term with Core 2 above 1.4v is known to blow the ass out of things.
Brad might be able to shed some light on this FSB overclocking setting in the voltages. I would be wary of that 2160 CPU now. I would be testing it in the next 775 tip board you get

yes scotty , im not holding my breath hoping on it, i got me eye on another board, i reckon theyre a cracker board, least ill have some spares this one has a bit different heatsink design than mine, the NB section is bigger, not sure but looks to me that section just past the silent pipe name the top plate may lift off and theres water cooling availability for the NB, its a much bigger heatsink than what ive got on mine www.ebay.com.au/itm/122232294613?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
