There are multiple ways to reach the point of owning/managing a company ( size is irrelevant ). There is only ONE healthy way to achieve that - Climbing the ladder step by step, sweating, bleeding, falling and rising again. Then and only then, a person can appreciate the fat chair he MIGHT seat in one day. Looking back at each step of the ladder, you can appreciate ( or not ), what each and everyone of the colleagues ( all employees are colleagues ), is worth. Obviously, this is ( was ) not the case in the company you worked for. The page has turned, the past teaches, a new horizon is open. ENJOY IT my friend in good health and spirit. All the best, George

very unfortunate scotty that you put all the time and effort in and the end result being so poor, but fortunate that no longer you will be in a situation where you're not appreciated, wishing all the best for you in your new endeavours with new beginnings and openings to be savoured and you'll be appreciated for scotty

I have no doubt I'll be better off. I totally blame the owner of the old place. In the last 5 or 6 years there, I've seen some radical changes in him and his business attitude. Personally, I'm pretty sure he has a few other issues/habits that are overtaking him. His company is near death, both financially and personal wise. I do not at this time see him making winter. He is at least a month behind in prep and has nobody left that knows anything about winter at all. I shouldn't care, but I cared until I walked out the door. I suppose I still do a little. It is unfortunate. On the brighter side, I will shift focus to my new place and put in my usual 110% there. Management there has been in contact with me almost daily for the last 2 weeks. They are excited. They tell me we don't have a guy with your skill sets here. Their wheels are already turning. That's encouraging.

Its hard to not care for the old place because of the time you put in. That's ok.
The semi hard part is saying no when the ask you to come back.
New place, new stake in the ground. I'm sure you'll own that position very well.

Old place already asked, "what can we do to keep you here?" My answer was "nothing. Too little, too late".

Sounds like you did yourself a favor, a well deserved one.
You don't need the added stress of trying to deal with it all. I was having to do that in certain instances before my job changed recently, now if they want to know something about what I was doing before they'll either have to pay me what I was making before during the time spent dealing with it or figure it out themselves like I had to when I started doing it and I can tell you ALOT of what I was doing before has not been done including required safety inspections.
I've made that known already to one of the big corporate guys (Head of corporate safety no less) when asked if I would be showing my replacement how to do these things but told him I don't get paid to do that anymore so..... With that I believe he got the message.
Ain't my clowns, show or circus anymore.

I feel the same way. I got calls today. Answered none of them. First day at the new place today. I was mostly show and tell. I expected that. I'll be fine here. I can tell already. So can they. It was mostly an information sharing day, although I did visit some job sites and introduce myself to some of the crews. This place is probably twice the size of where I came from.

Good to hear you're happy about the decision you took Scotty. I'm sure it wasn't easy to take, but then again it's twice as satisfying if a hard decision turns out to be a good one. You're a man that can't be told shit and that's what i really respect, i wish you best of luck at the new place

Figured I'd update this a little for you all. 2 months in and just had my first performance review. Gonna be a little shift in my position. Aside from running the snow show, they asked me to take over fleet maintenance on a permanent basis. They said their winter prep has never been better and would like that to carry over into the green season. So.........it looks like I'm back in the wrenching business again. Funny how things always come back around eh Jon? Pay bump was included. Need to find another decent mechanic. The other 2 guys here are questionable.

Know a few wrench tuners but you look at a different ocean!! That's always the way, ain't it. Slim pickins in this state. Either they're an affordable hacker, or a high priced union guy. Hard to find a good inbetween.
