Part 34: Hdd block installed I put new o-rings and a 5/16 tube on the block. I tapped the threads for the fittings and I just need to sand the fitting ports on the other side smooth.
And if your wondering, its about 12lb with the blocks installed, I feel like Tim the toolman Taylor with those 15k PRM hdds and blocks.

I've never seen blocks for HDD's before. I'm guessing there are inlet/outlet on the front or sides?

HDD blocks are more or less useless for 99% of cases, only time they make any since is when you put high RPM scsi drives into a home PC. Personally I like koolance's hdd block more as it directly cools the PCB and motor, but its made of aluminum.
EDIT: It's also worth noting that these blocks sit inside a box with sound denting inside the 5.25 bays so the mix is rather well thought out setup. The box helps silence the HDDs wile the blocks keep them from over heating inside the box.

Part 35: Lots of parts bought. Today I bought a lot of parts. its a 3 pay check month so I have a little extra to spend. I got the fallowing. 2 80 pin to 68 pin scsi adapters rounded scsi cable ADAPTEC 2100S scsi card. FSP300-60GRA redundant PSU, its a FSP unit rebranded as under the power-man name. ide DVD drive Sadly there is only 12 amps on the 12v rail of the PSU so I'm not going to be able to run 2 scsi drives. I wanted to get 3 more for a raid 5 back up array. but a flash drive will do.

Part 36: more parts planned.
So I still have a few parts to buy. I'm selling a few things later this month so I might have the funds to buy them.
Anyway one part I'm having a hard time picking is the CPU, right now all I have is a boring 1ghz 133fsb P3. I'm thinking of buying one of the fallowing. 1.4ghz P3-s 1.4ghz 100fsb Celly 766 MHz 66fsb celly 533mzh Celly
Here is the way I look at it. The 1.4ghz P3-s would be blazing fast and play any game Id want to play on the system. The 1.4ghz celly would be just about as fast and with the 100fsb I could push it a little more without making the 440bx chipset unstable. the 766mzh celly with the copermine core and 66fsb would be a fun to OC, faster then the 533 but less fun to OC. The older Mendocino celly would be supper fun to OC, it has a 66fsb leaving a lot of room to OC it. What are your thoughts?
Other parts I need to get would be the voodoo1, a USB 2.0 card, a more era correct 240mm rad, more 80 pin to 68 pin SCSI adapters and some cables

Part 36: PSU installed. I received the PSU last night. Its uses two good little 300w PSU's. This powerman is a rebranded of FSP unit. No bad caps ether, But the fans were bad, they spun but being 20+ year old yate loons they were making all manner of odd sounds I put some scythe fans in them witch push the same if not more are wile being far less loud. i.ibb.co/740gLd4/IMG-0620.jpgi.ibb.co/0fJ620w/IMG-0621.jpg

Part 37: A major change, for now.
So I was wanting to water cool the CPU, HDDs, the chip-set and GPU. However I was amazed at how cool and quite the HDDs ran and I do not have a good block for the GPU or chip-set. So for now I'm going to air cool the system. Once I find a block for the chip-set and GPU and a more era correct radiator I'll swap to water cooling. I also still need to make a top for the CPU block and I do have a universal old chip-set block, but its too big to fit the chip-set and the fitting come out the top of the block and block off 3 PCI slots if I put it on the GPU.
I'm thinking I'll make a custom top for the universal block as well. That is if I can't find a more fitting block.
BTW The HDD block is used the with funky silencer box but the 80 pin to 68 pin SCSI adapters did not fit with it. The board on the bottom of the HDD's would get very hot whit that setup. I'm going to fab something up so I have can the blocks with out the box.

thanks vin! believe it or not I hardly payed anything for it too. I wished I took photos of the internals it’s rather well built for a 300w unit. best part is the redundancy! I can game and not worry about a old PSU going bad 😂

Another small update. I bought was was likely the cheapest good heatsink for the CPU at 17$ I had scrapped or sold all my old air cooled heatsink so I needed a new one. Its temporary as I still plan to water cool the system later on. Seller's photo i.ibb.co/wQjnQZP/s-l500.jpg

Its just a longer file name, the link works fine here.
I renamed it
does that work for you?
Last night I started to wire the back side were the HDDs, CD drive and so one were. I rewired the 120mm HDD cooling fan to run off 5v. what would save .36 amps off the 12v rail, add that to the slightly lower amp rating on the PSU fans and I saved almost .75 amp. Sure that is hardly anything, but .65 is 6.25% of the PSUs max 12v amps so its a good savings and will help when I add a raid 1 or 5 backup array.

That's awesome... really that's the case and cooling you need on the new 12th gen..lol Vin it’s a big case that’s for sure. it originally had a 440fx system with two motherboards. One motherboard was a passive backplane and housed a few scsi raid cards. Infortunately the system was damaged in shipping, the heatsinks fell off the CPUs and damage a lot of parts.
EDIT: My 12th gen chip runs very cool on the stock cooler... 🤔

Its an 12100f. Technically a 12th gen lol If you don't need the cores I highly recommend it. It does not have the E core crap so no broken compatibility with older apps and its supper fast, my stock 1680v2 preformed about the same as the i3 in single and 2 or 4 threaded apps.
The fans in the case are even 500rpm, I can post a photo of that system if you'd like.

Ok looks like the CD drive I bought for the 440bx is a dud. I'll have to return it and buy a working one.
That being said a CD drive is all I need at this point to get the system running.
Also I'll be parting out the X58 system and putting together a 790i system with a core 2 duly. I had a 790i system up until a few years ago and loved it. it had 3 GTX 285s and a Wolfdale at I want to say 4.5ghz. The 285s are a bit hot and power hungry so I'll be getting some GF7 cards, the GF7 are much older and far more compatible with the very old games I play. the 285s are like 97% compatible as a few games can have rendering bugs. That and the GF7 pull far less power and IMO look cooler. I was thinking of getting s 7950 GX2's but I don't want to deal with the crappy heatsinks and those cards are slower then a 7900gtx when SLI is not working.

Ok a update. the 440bx system still needs a CD drive. Until I find the one I can not set it up.
The 790i system has started., I have the board and GPUs in the case.
But I have a 3rd project, my DIY tube amp is dying. I used it for my headphone I use with the my PCs. The left channel is being over driven. A look inside the amp showed a lot of parts need replaced. It was a cheap amp 10 years ago so I'm going to make a new one. I had started making a replacement about 5 years ago but never fished it. So I'll get it finished. I need to get the transformers and chassis for it and fix the tube sockets, I also need a few connectors for it. I put the sockets on the wrong side. I had the idea of putting the Amp underneath my desk but that is not all to safe. So I will need to de solder the tube sockets and put then on the right side of the PCB.

I was able to temporary fix my old tube amp but almost every cap and resistor and a tube socket needs replaced. TBH the power brick cost me more then the amp lol. its so cheap that if a tube blew it would take the fets with it. Its just 2 tubes, two fets, a few resistor and 3 caps. It was supper cheap and I'm amazed it lasted as long as it had.

But if you have one that can read DVD/CD-r and RW disks that is beige and IDE with 1amp and less on the 12v rail I might be interested.

So I tested the 790i last night and found it booted fine but the board has some damage, a cap and some sort of SMD was broken. Both were for the on board audio so no bigy. I asked the seller about it since the SN did not line up whit the SN on the board in the photos. He ended up refunding the sale no questions asked. I'll desolder the cracked SMD and the base of the broken cap and ill disable the on board audio. I might have my old dead 790i in my scrap pile, if I do I'll take the cap and what every that SMD part is off it. I also fixed the NB cooler, the strip of metal on the top of the NB heat sink with the NV logo had broken off, nothing a little solder could not fix.
I also got my H50 yesterday and took it apart. It should be a good base for a custom loop. I have a few good blocks and a few D5 pumps but the TJ10 is a air cooling case and not well layed out for a D5 or any other stand alone pump. Some day I hope to find a old 120mm rad with a built in pump/res.
