BTW, I have two cpus coming. X5675 X5690
Depending on how they do, I will bench both ambient and DICE. REX III for DICE with my 990X REX III BE for ambient with a Xeon cpu ( will see which one ).

Don't count yourself out pal. You are one of my mentors. Thank you brother ! Extremely kind words. Facts are facts though. Peter is a legend in my mind. Not only as a bencher but as an all round laboratory engineer. His knowledge extends far and beyond most and his character is an example to follow. I will do my best though and hope we all have fun. You yourself are a legend to me George. Always finding ways to make things go faster.

Jon, need links to backrounds instead of attachments. The attachments don't resize. They're too small.

I'm all ready to go for this one, gonna be good.
Can we use different hardware in the same cooling stage? Eg. Same board but two different cpu's for optimal single/multi score.

I don't see why not. I planned on it.

But if running sub zero on the same benchmark, the hardware must be different (cpu and board) from the Ambient submission.

I'll be going for the ambient portion of this comp as I don't have any equipment to run sub-zero (LN2, Dice, Phase) I was thinking that a Westmere/Gulftown 32nm 6-core cpu would be best for this comp? Any reason for me to try and bench with a 45nm 4-core Nehalem/Bloomfield vs. a 32mm 6-core CPU?

Yep, ambient here too! I will look around and try to come up with a prize to donate...

More cores will be better for the multi threaded benchs, but higher clocks will prevail on the single threaded ones. Your highest clocker may not be a 6 core processor. I know mine isn't.

32nm is the way to go here, even the best bloomfields out there will have a hard time reach 5.2 on ambient cooling. On cold same story, best bloomfields will top out around 5600-5700 no matter the bench, while westmere can keep trucking at 6ghz and beyond. I think I'll see what my backup chips can do, don't wanna degrade the best I have pushing on ambient, only have chiller here, so don't think I'll run proper cold for now.

What's the target for heavily threaded workloads? I am testing big chips right now in X265. I obtained a handful of "golden" ES chips so that prompted me to buy a few good boards. I sat down today for the first time ever with X58 and got started. I only have PSC for memory.... I just learned there is a separate controllable freq...the uncore lol. I didn't realize this ancient stuff that that. I just set XMP memory and let it go auto, I will test mems later. It looks like PSC should be able to handle 6-9-6 tight @ 2000. X265 4K and 1080P are about the same difficulty for this stuff...odd Large water loop but normal household ambient: Attachments:

I'm running a Wraith Prism retro fitted because I don't think a Hyper 212 can deal with it. 980x around 1.45v is all I can handle, and definitely not hitting 4.8ghz with the memory I have and the mocked up cooling solution dare that help any. XD. Running 2x Viper Extreme 2000 and 1x Dom 2000 so I can have high frequency triple channel. And they HAVE to be in that order. However, I have 3x 1GB Elpida's I'd like to run for SuperPiMod 32m. For grins an old GTX 260 cause the colors match the board. On the fence. Ice bucket and pond pump which should keep me just above freezing and never below.... Or set up for LN2 on a platform I'm trying to learn on lol. QPI's and I figure that's equivalent to saying AMD's hyper transport link, Uncore is North Bridge and these chips like cold and v-core. That's what I learned my first time clocking X58. Mad v-core. Ain't overclocking until 1.7v.....

It's damn tempting. Right now, just below 1.5v and 4.5ghz all threads. 90c+ CBR15, but at least all threads running. Scotty sent me a 980 non X I managed 5.2ghz on about 6c water delta. I'd have to look but close to 1.7v for that chip, I couldn't tame 1.75v, but that cpu would go more I know for sure for sure!!!!! This Rampage II is pretty solid though, Once I cleared cmos a certain way, it posted and hasn't stopped since. Not sure what the deal was, but it took holding the clear cmos and power button for 30 seconds with the battery installed and back in business! 2 - 3 hours I fucked with this board to get it posted, and that was with a 930. Cleared cmos again, same fashion, slapped in the 980X and been going since.

For real though. Look at this lol. I mean CBR15 isn't exactly the heaviest thing out there.
