I tend to agree with him on the environment. I see with my own eyes now what the concern is all about. But I'm afraid it's just too late to back out of it. What folks don't understand is that the planet will be just fine. It can survive just fine. It will just get rid of us as the infestation that we are. We are poking at a mighty giant and sooner or later that giant is going to wake up and give us a swat..........robots be damned.

I 100% agree. we are a virus and earth will be fine. I think in a few generations there will be a major environmental tipping point.
One scenario that my mother told me that her Science teacher told her as a young adolescent.. True North is currently South. He predicted the following "You won't see it, your children might see it or the start.. their children will see it and their children will live through it, the poles will return true. That will reverse all weather throughout the world. Every major weather anomaly will happen in an extremely short time resulting on major loss of life".
the way things have been, one could argue that he may be right.

Eddie, your comment reminds me of George Carlin... The Earth will be fine, Humans, not so much so. lol.
EV will help drastically reduce smog in big cities. This will help increase quality of life and also longevity.
Everything has ups and downs. Gotta take the good with the bad.
__________
The Carbon Dioxide levels over 400ppm is bad for humans. If you where locked in a room with that high of dioxide levels, bad things could happen. It is more likely our atmosphere will be tough to breath in 100-200 years if we keep on the same pace.

Don't follow green new deal science that close, for more than a few reasons to broad for me to discuss as I don't like to type that much.
Did read a interesting piece concerning the earth's rotation. We all know about the wobble that causes the seasons but the article stated that the earth moves on a secondary rotation that moves the planet closer and farther from the sun based on a 133K year cycle, per the article the planet is on the warming side of the orbit. I have not been able to find the post again after reading it. If you look at weather paleontology papers they discuss a 125K cycle plus a few more which I can't remember off the top of my head, just food for thought.
As for high levels of CO2 plant more trees and depending on future weather patterns maybe Nevada will become a lush forest.
I didn't watch Op's post, don't care for the man that much.

Some of what he said is true but at the same time I could "Hear" the sales pitch for his electric cars towards the end of it.

Such fools that are out there. Do you know how much pollution is created from the manufacture of Lithium batteries?? What a snow job we are getting. Wait til these things start rusting thru those weak unibody constructed frames. Chicago winters and road salt will eat right thru those babies. Battery acids and chemicals spilling out right there at the curb in front of your home or in your attached garage. Get into an accident with an electric vehicle filled with a couple thousand battery cells. Have you ever seen batteries ignite. Makes a gasoline fire look like a joke. Burning batteries usually can't be put out. You just have to let them burn out. They burn right thru aluminum and steel. Fire fighters try to lessen the fire with chemical foam. Then that mixes with all those acids and go right down the storm drains in the street. Making it to our drinking water. Into our lakes and streams. The caustic fumes are deadly. I was born at night........but not last night.
Okay, I'm off my soap box.

Just fine over a year old now and no fires. My old man thinks China is trying to kill us with electric cars. Tesla isn't made in china..lol.

As for salt and corrosion or what would happen in a collision I don't know, the only thing concerning the present battery technology is EOL disposal. Raw materials would be no different than any mining operation.

My sisters neighbor had a Tesla. Nice looking car too. Had to plan his travels around where there were chargers available. Well needless to say he came home on a flat bed. More than once. You have to watch that charge indicator. Then he found out that the batteries had worn down and needed replacement. $7000! Then the seals in the battery tray started leaking and the compartment got water in it after taking the car to a car wash and all the systems in the car starting shorting out. And he couldn't try to service the car at home because for one you void the warranty and for another...........well he's afraid of the high voltage traveling thru there. He dumped the Tesla and is now driving a Lincoln. I can't blame him. Me, I'm too old for these changes. But they are very nice looking cars and it's why they sell. Oh, and did I mention they get stuck in the snow here in Chicago cause they are so aerodynamic and low to the ground. You can't get one thru my alley in the winter. They just spin those all wheel drive tires to death. My 28 year old Buick would run circles around it. They need more time with them I think. They need to give us something like the moon rover the boys cruised on the moon during the Apollo landings. Edit: I have the hiccups again I'm laughing so hard. I crack myself up.

Nothing we make is perfect.
You should see all the after treatment on diesels.
The "One Box" system on a freightliner is about 8000$ to replace. Converting harmful Nox into dioxides and oxygen with DEF fluid (Urea). The conversion rate must be 70% or higher. Now that "One Box" that holds all the filters does not include the 300$ plus sensors.... Or the wiring harness and After treatment control module. Pickup trucks are the same way.
There's a LOT of money invested into running Diesels cleaner. Lot of time. Lot of truck down time from it.
It's all EPA stuff.
And when they push electric, EPA will have their way. As they always have.
But you're right Eddie. It'll take a while to get EV right and good. Has it's goods, has it's bads. Just have to see where it all pans out.

if you're a city guy, an EV makes sense. but the moment you travel more than a few hundred miles. Hybrids are the way to go.

You're so right Jon. All have their plus and minuses. They will get that EV stuff perfected. But you know how it always goes............we will be the guinea pigs for it. We are always turned into testers when we buy that new technology.
All that stuff said I would like to see this happen. Don't know how -20*F would affect those batteries but still would be cool. This is the one electric vehicle that really impressed me, cars not so much.

Don't want anything to do with an electric period. If I did I would have bought an E-Z Go way back when.

That Tesla truck full 53 foot empty trailer is hitting 0-60mph in under 5 seconds. Hilarious torque. At 0 RPM and the same torque rating through All RPMs. It's our futures. Electric really is. The motors we've made, electric runs most factories. All electric motors. Diesel generators for backup power. Innovations is what will bring EV to the homes. It just needs to become a supply and demand. The demand is growing pretty fast. Just think about the smog in the big cities. It'll be gone. Step outside and smell country fresh air and not nasty truck fumes.

That thing is a monster. I will miss the smell of diesel and gasoline though. I'm so poisoned by now that I actually like it. I love the smell of filling up my car, although it's not quite the same anymore. Not much gas in a gallon of gasoline anymore. They ruined it with Ethanol. I can't find pure gasoline in Chicago anymore. I guess this is the beginning of the end for it.

Lurking.... Oh wait... I have to use an electric motor to start my gas engine..... how ironic. haha.

The Tesla truck is interesting but found that Tesla gives no weight for the tractor. After spending some more time and only finding estimations at about two tons heavier for a unloaded vehicle, (Tesla, tractor / trailer?) it's not a great difference.
Logistics on the other hand are more interesting, my only basic knowledge comes from the gravel industry and based on what I've seen not uncommon to see trucks from companies in excess of a 100 miles from the production site for deliveries exceeding that amount for projects that may take months to complete and there ain't no sleeper cabs.
As charging becomes a big down time and based on the demand for the trucks the average car charging station may not fit the bill. At present not only would you have charging time but a good probability of wait time to get to the plugs, sure this will change. The days of seeing a belly dump pulled into a gas station using the diesel pump may have ended.
Freeway congestion is another factor. CA puts trucks in the slow lanes which in my opinion is one of the biggest pollution decisions of all time from a reported green state but what is the energy toll, does the 500 mile become a 300 mile tractor?
In CA for 2015, 4.1 billion gallons of diesel and 15.1 billion gallons of gasoline were sold. Prices have increased over a $1.50 per gallon recently, sales tax is about 8 cents per $1 (7.25 cents CA some counties and cities have there own), nifty hidden tax increase not taking in the overall price increase in goods due to transportation cost increases, in the end it's out of our pocket.
Don't get me wrong I understand this is the future but the idea that its going to happen today has to be discussed.

It's being pushed today for sure.
The old logistics company I worked for buys all state of the art tractors. They plan to go electric in the next 10 years or sooner when available. It is a local trucking company, so 300 mile range is about perfect.
