I pulled a P5Q out of the cupboard today and subbed a 606 ref frequency with it tomorrow I will take that 620mhz record on HWBot easily. valid.x86.fr/wiljb9

You should already have gains since p5qd bios is the best 1mb bios but maybe you can get abit more with maximus ii formula ebb Flashing wise youll need a 4$ bios programmer like the ch341a, it is a socketed bios chip so that makes flashing alot easier What cpu are you using? Any mods to the board? Aircooling or subzero?

I have the record on HWBot 622.09 valid.x86.fr/xef9x8CPU is an E8500 EO I put 7 of them through it today worst was 540mhz best was 622 they all ranged between those frequencies I have another 8 of them I didnt try one day I will in a better board. Memory is 1 stick of corsair Dominator D9 3-4-3-9 they will do 670 5-5-5-15 1T in my Rampage Formula. Atmospheric Water and the temp here is 24c today. I am not worried about modifying bioses for that board I have got over a dozen 775 boards here including 2 Rampage Extremes, Rampage Formula, EP45T Extreme and a bunch of UD3P/R. Vers. 1.1 is what you want for DDR2 dominators 1GB sticks.

Fsb capability does improve with a modded bios, if you got the record then might aswell smash the previous one
What settings did you use? My e8400 with my p5q does max 575 fsb on cold boot but stock bios only did a pitiful 530fsb

Btw what ics do good 2gb rams have anyways? Cause if theres 1200 kits with 2gb dimms then id assume if i can get ahold of the ics used on those i could have high oc with 2gb dimms I remembered about a dead G.Skill 2GB stick I have. Took the heatsinks off but the ICs have no marking on them. These G.Skill are the best 2GB sticks I have found so far. Going to try and revive it with a reflow but I don't have much hope. For comparison, the upper stick is 1GB D9. EDIT: I also noticed something, the G.Skill stick was marked with a golden spot of paint on top of the PCB. Must have been applied from G.Skill, could this be from the binning process? I would have expected they binned ICs individually and not whole sticks but thinking about it, binning ICs is probably to time consuming and difficult.

What are those, D9GMH sticks?

What are those, D9GMH sticks? Referring to me or Mac? My 1GB stick (top of the photo) is D9GMH. The 2GB G.Skill below is unknown, just shot them side by side for a size comparison. Some ICs can be identified by the size of their package, but I don't know anything about these. The Corsair from Mac are definitly high binned GMHs. EDIT: Okay, so the 2GB stick is back? Kinda? Before it could not get a single boot without BSOD, not even at 400MHz. Now it can run rated speed again: It did BSOD 30 minutes after the run in idle tho, passed another 32m fine. I don't trust this stick, but it seems that giving 'dead' sticks a hot air treatment can bring them back for a bit. Just like baking GPUs. I observed a similar behavior with a stick of D9GMH in the past. I assume the actual defect is related to the wire bonding used inside the package and a reflow of the solder underneath it does not fix the real issue but the heat expansion might just be shifting the bonds enough to where they temporarily improve again.

Ok seems like i may be able to snag a ud3r for 12$ or maybe slightly lower, so screw the x5260 for now and imma go buy that board, i think ill keep my p5q incase i can run a high power tec on it and maybe set an hwbot fsb record cause it seems to be a good bin, all the other p5q and p5q pro ive tested have less fsb capability than my p5q so ill keep it just for potential hwbot record on tec nb
Now that fsb can most likely go 600+ 5g shouldnt be a problem for my e8400 so now i just gotta sort out cooling, i think ill just make a ghetto loop with a motorcycle rad and upgrade the block to a copper one later on

Is there a big diff between ep45 ds4p and ep45 ud3r overclocking wise? Cause the ds4 is quite abit cheaper than the ud3r. They might be gone very soon so i need to know which one is better

for that I usually go to HWBOT and browse the Hardware DB.. So the DS4P has a max FSB sub of 500mhz with a max CPU clock of 4200Mhz... Link: hwbot.org/hardware/motherboards#key=ga_ep45_ds4pthe UD3R has a max FSB sub of 720Mhz with a max CPU clock of 6264Mhz Link: hwbot.org/hardware/motherboards#key=ga_ep45_ud3rKeep in mind this is partially subjective, could just mean the ds4p (only 73 total submissions) wasn't as available as the ud3r (2,540 total submissions). Maybe if pushed it could do those things... it it were me, I'd try to get both boards. you know as long as the ud3r isn't beaten on will do well... and the ds4p could be a hidden jem, if it doesn't cost too much, it might be worth the gamble. Vin They should be pretty similar looking at the ds4 record, ds4p record is bullcrap and ill go an smash it ez. For all i know the ds4p is just a ds4 with extra pcie x16 slots so pretty much the same board Ds4 does seem a lil worse than the ud3r but ill put it up for sale anyways and when i can buy the ud3r ill compare them both to see which one is better, the worse one will be sold off

Vin posted while I was typing!
There are only 73 subs for the ep45 ds4p on HWBot, two users not looking to bad Q9450 500 FSB and a Q9400 with a 525 FSB but voltage is pretty high at 1.7+v on the CPU (water). I didn't see any 2 core info but didn't look real hard. Based on what I see I'd have no problem giving one ago if it was cheap enough and I mean cheap as I generally only use P45 for Quads and a 525 FSB isn't to bad, Finding a gem in the dirt pile is rewarding in it's own right. On the other hand going with the standards for a socket will put more points on the tally sheet, generally speaking.

EP45-UD3P/R were designed specifically for quads and very good at running them I prefer Asus X48 for duals they are faster clock for clock.

What kind of fsb can i expect on a quad with a ud3p/r board? Im assuming theyll do 500+ with ease but quads dont fsb oc that high anyways unless you got a golden chip and some subzero cooling Any other things the ud3p/r boards are good at other than quads when compared to the ds boards?

The only ds board I have is a P35-DS4 which I bought for running 478 cpus in so I cant really say but as far as I know the ds wasnt Gigabytes top boards EP45-Extreme is.
At the end of the month I am going to run the P5Q with nitrogen on the CPU then we will see how good that really goes.

Youll prob need to subzero the nb aswell, they are pretty meh at reaching any decent fsb if you are trying for high freq, unlocked cpu would help I do have my bios mod file though idk how to send it, depending on the board expect fsb to raise by 30-50ish on air, idk how to make it not need an external bios flasher or afudos so i think ill just use kets beta bios for p5q as the base and shove a maximus ii formula ebb to make it not a pain in the ass to flash

I will try your bios upload it to onedrive or another file sharing site and give me a link for it I have a couple of flashers here.
I dont need cold on the NB for the 15mhz more it will give me to much drama with the extra insulation I should get to 650 with cold on the CPU also I will be running a few benches as well. This will be after X58 for the comp here.

I think ill make better insulation this time and now i have a flat peice of metal rather than some horribly bent scrap metal

Apparently the extreme is worse than the ud3p? Guess thats just the extreme being a worse bin, interesting that your p5q can do decent fsb while mine is at a sad 490 stable and 570 max Btw youll def benifit from flashing a maximus ii bios on that thing since it should have better ebb and maybe even more bios settings, if you cant then just use mmtool and put a maximus ebb on your p5q ws bios file Btw what bios chip does your p5q ws have? I wanna have a go at adding more settings to my board by using a 2mb bios and flashing a maximus bios on it, tried and failed to modify my p5qd bios to have extra settings that the higher end boards have (no amibcp doesnt help here cause settings just arent there)

ive just retested my ud3p after dunking it in water for cleaning and still will not budge from c1 code, at this point im certain that its unrevivable unless i swap nb, last thing i can try is reflasing the bios but i doubt thatll do anything and i still dont have the proper soldering tools needed to desolder the bios chip

Pretty much every pair of ballistix I owned from that era died.. I had good luck with G.Skills D9s though.. but not all of them lived. My OCZ would have lived if I didn’t rip the chips off a stick.. some kind of accident with a heat spreader, might have been dog related. I had shit luck with Corsair. I always give them a hard time nowadays. Even if they are “ok”.. How the hell do you even rip a chip off your rams? Insufficient heat while taking off the heatspreader or something? What kind of bad luck did you get with corsair stuff? Nowadays they make overpriced rgb rams but atleast they have a chance of coming with b die Personally mbs wise my asus is garbage and all the other asus boards i have (p5kpl,qpl, p5q pro) have been garbage for fsb overclocking when compared to other boards of that chipset, p5kpl just doesnt detect sata hdds above 400fsb but does 500 with ease so def some potential if the bios wasnt garbage, p5qpl can burn in hell just like all the other non p45/x48 boards cause they get trounced by giga g31 max fsb wise, p5q pro has the same fsb oc capability as my p5q so pretty rubbish even with modded bios. i prefer to avoid reccomending asus boards unless they can be flashed to a top tier board with no bios crippling bullcrap Honestly, I think I just pulled the stick out of its slot. It was a hot day, maybe 35c in the house.. but still. As for Corsair.. I have 2 sets of DDR2 still as a reminder. Blue scream after blue scream for the XMS, the Dominators are ok, not as good as my G.Skills though. I had a TX850 that was a steaming pile. It was good for a year, after a year of folding and benchmarking it was done son. I mean it still worked, but it could barely handle a stock X58 system, and 3D was out of the question lol. If I was in the market for another set of B-Die, I wouldn't buy it from Corsair because 1 stick would be Sammy, and the other would be Nanya lol.. I kid.. but.. you never know You gotta get away from those cheap boards. Good boards wont break your heart. I see your comments, and its like well.. their low-midrange stuff sucks. Upper mid and higher is where its at.. seriously. My P5BD-wifi, P5KD-wifi, and RF were all awesome for me. The X48 was a bit underwelming with a 45nm quad though. With a dual core she fuckin flew for me.. that's why I still have it lol. And no one would buy it when I had it up. I had a top end Giga once, but it wasn't as good as my Asus so I sold it to a buddy.. still runs today.. good board lol.. Could have used it for the comp if it was still mine.. dammit. But that sag.. eww.

NB delay 7us that was about it. Could you give the settings for that high 647fsb oc? Cause i have the ds4p now and i am having a hard time trying to oc it cause theres a boat load more settings than the p5q, usually id just take the settings of a high overclock from someone else and use that for a reference, pretty much the way i got my rams to 1480mhz 7-9-9-10 just stealing settings off the extreem dark hwbot record xD

I took a look at the EP45-DS4, 300 subs. 5 FSB subs 4 are 600 or better top at 690 (LN2 CPU & NB) and 1 quad @ 520. After paying a little closer attention realize the DS4s would be a step up from the UP3s, having better heat pipe coverage and 8x crossfire, (only things I paid attention to). Only saw Rev. 1.0 when looking at the manual which might make a difference. It's only going to be as good as it's NB but has no reason it won't do well.

Also it was a EP45T-UD3R. DDR3 boards are so much easier the ram is doing it easy

community.hwbot.org/topic/204312-cpu-700mhz-bus-speed-project/#comments literally just stole the settings off this thread and got 600fsb boot but i think im gonna have to play around with other settings to get any higher, i might be at my boards limit at stock cooling so i may have to move to cold nb, good thing i have a bunch of sb heatsinks from dead boards cause now i have a proper metal plate that isnt a horribly bent piece of scrap metal, now i just need new thermal paste cause ive run out of mx4, is gd900 ok for subzero temps? Lowest i can set nb delay is 50ps and that doesnt seem to help with fsb Theres also ich (sb) volts and for all i know that doesnt affect fsb either, only setting left that could help fsb is cpu ref 2 but idk how that one works, then theres dram termination, dram channel termination, and nb/dram termination which i havent bothered to check yet cause i also have absolutely now idea what values i should be aiming for when setting them Well if it doesnt do well on cold ill go get a ud board and rip someone off for this ds4 xD profit margin would be really close to 100% assuming all the guys selling under 20$ have run out of stock cause i bought this thing for 10$
