Was looking at the local trade site saw 2 Asus boards for sale as faulty
Asus P9X79 Deluxe and Asus F1A75-M 300SEK (35 Bucks) Both looked new , Both had Sealed i/0 Plates. not a spec of dust in sight
I bought it ASAP , looked at the pics later in detail and was like arghhh the x79 socket looked like it had like 10 missing pins.
Waited for a bot but finaly got them in, there was no missing pins they was covered in a crap load of thermal paste
Went to work with the WD40 spraying out the socket and scrubbing with a toothbrush got it all off and let the board soak in the sink. Hung it on the washing line to dry. After getting some funny looks from the neigbors booted the FM1 board up. Was getting no power , but after a few power cycles it booted right up like it had just come out of a 10 year coma or something. Ordered the cheapest X79 CPU i could the i7 3820. got that in and boom the board posted. did stress testing and board passed. using the i7 for now but have E5 1650 V2 on the way. Stuck 40gb ram in it what a beast.
P.S we dumped the bios before powering it on , previous user must have thought F it because half of his dimms wasnt posting proably due to paste in the socket and constantly boot cycling. Intresting the OS was linux that was being booted also, You would think linux users would know MX4 + Socket = No post
Guy even threw some CPUs in 4 775 and a Pentium Sandy
EPIC WIN!
