A couple contacted me today wanting a gaming computer for their 13 year old son's birthday. They want a gaming tower with rgb that is capable of playing the latest and greatest games, a 28" flat panel monitor, mouse and keyboard, and 10 games installed. The wife told me they had a budget of 300 bucks. I swear I almost spit my coffee out. Wow some people are totally clueless. Hell a decent monitor alone would cost 300 dollars.....smdh.

Uh..... You may want to add an extra 0 to that total and hope it's enough?

I told them what the realistic prices are, and then told them how much I had in mine. They said they would "talk it over".....lol

Do people not realize just how expensive parts are? It's hard enough to build a decent gaming rig with $1k USD if you're including the various important things (keyboard, mouse, monitor)... $2,500 maybe, but $3k is a good starting point for a fully fledged rig that can handle most of what you throw at it.
Hell, a good keyboard and mouse that will survive the thrashing of FPS games will come close to maxing out that budget...
My new rig is going to be $2,500 CAD, and that doesn't include monitors or a graphics card - my monitors alone were something like $1,640 CAD (more if you include the IPRs on the side ones!), and the GPU was $1,210 CAD... Then add another $400 CAD for the keyboard and mouse, and we're already over $5,700 CAD!!
Naturally not everyone builds a gaming rig the same way I do, but mine is also a multi-purpose workstation at the same time, and I literally cannot survive on a single monitor, they're just too restrictive. Oh yeah, price doesn't include the monitor stands either, or my audio interface...
Edit: do they not realize than ten games adds in another $600ish USD as well (assuming average retail pricing of a new game is $60 USD)?
