well everyone knows about myself and gigabytes relationships from the past, reminds me of my past women relationships ,all blown up, but i must say, i forgot i had this board and i showed pete the other week so i thought id have a play with it again, forgot all about it coz i bought the crosshair after it, well i put the fx 4130 in it and it equals the crosshair in cpu megahertz, its surprised me i have to admit, is this the start of a new found love affair with gigabyte i found it strange i dont see any motherboard lights or led readout on it tho, looked at a couple of reviews and a you tube vid of it and they say its supposed to be a high end board according to what i read and heard...... with no motherboard lights and led read out, no buttons to push to start, reset, cmos clear is a jumper not a button push ? that doesnt sound like its too high end to me, has anyone got this particular board ?
Not a high end board by a long shot. They had a reputation for throttling depending on the version. Some had APM/HPC options others didn't. IIRC the board is on revision5 now and probably still didn't get it quite right. OK for average use but not an overclockers choice.
personally johan i didnt think it was a high end board as they described it, i dunno what this has got really, it didnt come with the original box and accessories so id have to look it all up re the APM / HPC options, went as well with the fx-4130 in it at 5450mhz, and about the same as the crosshair did and pretty much all settings were on auto other than a few voltages , fsb and multi, coz im not sure what all the others do lol, will take a bit to work it out
i dont think theres a board issue with this gig board at all, all seems to be going fine, im pretty sure the cpu has just run out of puff, ill disable 2 cores 2mozz and see if itll do any more, would be interesting to see what itd do on LN2, my guess would be 6's, i remember getting 5.2 on air with a 212 evo and 2 cores when i first got it in the Asrock 970 pro3 board i originally bought with the cpu , now im getting the same freq on the gig as the crosshair
well the new found love affair with gig is prob a tad too presumptuous pete but was good for a laugh or 2 , gotta have a bit of a luck change with gig somewhere along the line tho .... didnt expect it could be so high on LN2 , i thought maybe in the mid 6's at most
i re watched the video and it says its backwards compatible with am2 and am2+ sockets, does that mean am2 and am2+ cpus will work in it ? this overview video was made in april 2013, so at that time hes claiming that it was high end then, definately far from it now as i read it

The sockets are physically the same but AM2 and AM2+ CPUs wont run in it because it only has DDR3 memory. AM2/AM2+ CPUs only had a DDR2 IMC. AM3 CPUs the IMC can run on both DDR2 / DDR3 so AM3 CPUs can run in a wide array of boards.
It was made around the same time as the Crosshair Z and has 8+2 power phases like the Crosshair. But Johan could be right it could suffer under high loads.
One thing about defining high end motherboards it sure isnt buttons and debug leds thats for sure as well as a heap of features that you are going to turn off in the bios anyway. One thing in its favour its got the 990FX chipset. If you want you can stick the 8370 I have got here in it for a spin and see how it goes
i still dont get the meaning of what backwards compatible means properly, ill get you to explain it to me next time pete, would be interesting to see what the 8370 will do, you already know what it does in the xhair both on water and ln2
bring it with you if you want next time pete, ill put it in while youre here and you can have a play with it, you know the boards terminologies lol
ok pete thx, i really like the way the bios works in this board, its easy, if the settings dont work it takes you to a page to select enter bios, it just does it all for ya, no clring cmos bullshit and waitin, it does it and goes to that page then click it and back in the bios again
really been havin fun playin with this board, its matching the xhair in every way from what ive seen and ive checked my previous subs with the xhair, this is doin it with less volts, im sure its my settings thats the reason why, but i thought id never say this about a gig board but this board seems to be so forgiving for a so called high end board then, and now a not so board.. in todays standards, i think its doin ok, .... i love the way the go back into bios is set up...no fuss
With the UD3 it really depends on the revision of the board. As I said I think it's in rev.5 now. I can't recall off hand which ones were the better ones TBH it's been a while since I've seen any in the forums. But I do know people were having all kinds of problems with some revisions throttling.

Dont worry Johan I am sure I have heard something similar before. And of course you know who Hicookie is dont you he is a Gigabyte engineer has a big hand in a lot of there board designs. I dont see anyone else with one of those boards up there.
well isnt this board a turn up for the books, pete came over with his fx-8370 to have a go in it, and its absolutely smashed the crosshair v-z in everything, never see pete shake his head much, thought it was gunna fall off today , he couldnt beleive what this board was doin, and neither could i as well, it was like it didnt want to give up and how it went today against the crosshair he reckons it could be a 8+ contender with ln2, i never thought id say it but this gig board is a cracker, i think ive hit the silicone lottery with this one, and it cost me $30 delivered, i checked, i cant remember what was supposed to be wrong with it , it was last year when i bought it, i think it was a ram or cpu wouldnt boot and he bought another board so he listed it as for parts not working so i took a gamble on it and no one else bid on it , so i had a win...for a change, so im gunna have a little play with it
i mighta spoke too soon lol, turned the UD3 off the other night , shut it down out of windows properly and turned off all power, i had the 555BE in it and was running fine b4, just turned it off to get dinner done and finished, pete came yesterday and i put the 8370 back in it and it didnt want to boot, gpu /s spun up then didnt want too a couple of times, i remember when i bought it over 12mths ago it had an intermittent problem, this must be it, when it goes it goes good, so i took it off and put the old faithful ASROCK 970 PRO 3 on, with the 8370, didnt, my 1st ddr3 board, didnt wanna boot with the bios in it , so pete flashed it and away she went, so im gunna try it lol

I had a Asus M5A990FX pro R2.0 when I had my FX8350 it was a decent mobo lasted a while til one of the video cards HD 7950 took out the on-board sound I bought 1 gigabyte mobo back when I had my celeron d 360 and C2Q Q6600 it was ok with the celeron but not 15 mins after I put the Q6600 in it it died I was a sad mofo then lmao but as someone said before the UD7 is the one to have
whadda you reckon pete ?? not too shabby for the pissy little asrock 970 pro 3 board and im out of vcore voltage too. 1.5500V + .150mV offset, thats all shes got to play with other than the other voltage settings, nb, sb, ht, etc lol, didnt think it was wise move to give them too much..... the ud3 is goin back on tomorrow to try out again, its been restin since tuesdy arvo
ShrimpBrime: Yeah, you guys are probably right. I'm gonna do that. For the time being I tried the Razor Viper 8K2. It's smooth and all that, but it's smaller. It lacks features. Mamba it is!!!

austin86: I like the old MS intellimouse. But it sounds like you need to find anther Razor mamba.

zila1: If you liked that mouse that much another type or brand may not suit you. If you can find another one, I would get it. Maybe two more if you can swing it and put one away.

ShrimpBrime: Any suggestions, or should I just get another of the same mouse? I did get a lot of years from it....
Aug 7, 2022 17:51:51 GMT -5
ShrimpBrime: I dislike my new mouse. Need suggestions. Was spoiled for a long time with a Razor mamba tournament edition. The mouse wheel has 4 buttons on it's own, I liked the side to side page scroll feature it had. The lazer wigz out occasionally.

antinomy: So if you lack of sex, VIA's here to help you
Aug 6, 2022 18:15:01 GMT -5
antinomy: Nano has twice performance for same clocks against the older C7. But compatibility is a bitch. Bench(f**n)mate won't run on it, W10 didn't run too (maybe there is some build that will), some benchmarks are finicky about VIAs.
Aug 6, 2022 18:14:45 GMT -5
antinomy: The architecture has changed a few times. C3 is like the stone age. Superseeded by C7. Don't remember about IPC but the bus changed from P6 arch (Pentium 2/3) to quad-pumped (Pentium 4/Core2). Then it has been replaced by Isaiah architecture (VIA Nano).
Aug 6, 2022 18:12:45 GMT -5
austin86: yeah the c3 was a slow chip, some of the zhaoxin CPUs use VIA architecture too.
