thought id go up the tip the other day so i loaded up some throwout junk i had coz i know they have an electrical throwout bin up ther for pcs and tvs, prob is u cant go out with more weight than u come in with lol, and if you get caught knockin stuff off then youre in trouble, anyway i found a lappy and stripped it down and had an i5 somethin in it lol, so i gave it to pete, what im gunna do is petes gunna give me his throw out stuff, ill put some more to it, take it up there coz its free to throw out for recycle, pinch it and see what its got in it , never know your luck

nice chair, mine isn't doing so well. everything with it is great but the shock is no good anymore. as I sit in it it slowly lowers. after an hour or two I have to raise it back up... like a few inches.

went up the tip again last sunday, seems the best day as they empty the bin on monday, got 3 more laptops, really dunno what to do with em coz i wanted to use em for mobiles but after looking, seems theyre all diff socket types and to bench you gotta know what to keep once pulled apart, totally diff set up to desktops to power up and get to work from what i see so far lol' anyway i picked up a desktop with a gig GA-81865GM in it, its a 775 socket but kingston ddr ram in it, i thought 775 was ddr2 support only, also i looked it up and saw that someone suggested that ctrl + f1 is supposed to unlock bios setting options, dunno, least its another 775 board i have to play with if she works, will check it out soon says its a springdale on the board boards dead, , tried different everything in it, same results, never mind , was a thowout, least got a cpu. gpu. ram to try

i thought 775 was ddr2 support only Nope, Some P45 and X48 boards did DDR3. but if I remember right, the speeds were not full out DDR3. it was crutched a little. I always wanted one for benching though, one less board bottleneck to worry about. that's what I would have hoped for. never been able to test it for myself. Vin

775 comes in the three varieties of Memory its old style the memory controller is in the North Bridge not the CPU. All data between the CPU to memory goes via the northbridge. Socket 1366 and 1155 were the first Intel CPUs to have a IMC (integrated memory controller) in the CPU. The memory the board supports is governed by the chipset not the CPU as in Shane's board it has a 865G chipset which was mainly used with Socket 478 but was used in 775 too it also supports AGP Graphics. The Asrock boards with the 865 chipset are better they support Core 2 and are good AGP benchers. That Gigabyte board does not support Core 2 P35, P45, X38, X48 Boards come in 2 varieties one supporting DDR2 the other supporting DDR3 weather the actual northbridge is different I am not sure about but would tend to think it would be.

just went up the tip, got busted too, went in @ 1.74 ton and came out at 1.78 ton, bloke said to me youre heavier than what you went in with, mate you better check those scales, the other side reads different to this side i noticed this the other day, i just chucked out 5 computer cases and a monitor, scales gotta be wrong, ok he said ill make a note to get it checked out, , picked up 2 sony vaio laptops minus chargers , 2 dell desktops, 1 is a big mother too, its got a HD 4870 gpu in it, 4 sticks of ddr3 samsung ram, the other is a dell also, with a oem 775 socket mobo and a geforce 210 card in it...will power em up later and see if theyre goers www.cnet.com/products/dell-studio-xps-9000-formerly-xps-435/review/and the best of all is a pressy for pete for chrissy, a 24 inch dell ultra sharp monitor, in the box all taped up, though for sure itsd be the old monitor, nope its the dell, plugged it in and bang works like a beauty, and looks like its new www1.la.dell.com/ag/en/gen/peripherals/monitor-dell-s2409wfp/pd.aspx?refid=monitor-dell-s2409wfp&s=genthere you go george, an easy and fun way to beat the system to get the older hardware to run

2 from 3 isnt bad, the 775 and the dell monitor works like a cracker, the 1366 doesnt boot up, looks like might be a short somewhere in it, tried different psu, same deal, battery out now and retry later, seems no power anywhere but the psu, nothing spins up, will see whats there again next sunday, might be lucky again

just pulled the x58 1366 board out of this pc i picked up, its got I7-920 cpu in it and 4 x 2gb 8500 samsung ram, radeon HD-4850 card, stripped it down, took the heatsinks off the vrms, NB, SB as its a 1 piece heatsink and pipe setup and cant see anything obvious, chips seem to look ok other than the paste was like a rock but doubt thats gunna stop it from powering up, change psus , new battery, clrd cmos, does the same thing, wont power up, any ideas boys please ??
did a bit more reading and found that its supposed to have an orange light on the mobo when it has power, i dont have that, the psu powers up, joined the green and black wires, fan spins on and heard the hdds spin up, dvd players work as well, so the psu is ok, looks to be a mobo failure and i dunno where to look or what to look at to find the issue, put the bare board on the bench rig and plugged in the 8 pin and 24 pin plugs, turned on the power and no light anywhere

Hmmm Shane I got that Dell home and it chucked a wobbly beeping its head off they dont throw them out for nothing Turns out its got a bad ram slot so I am only running 2x1GB in it now not 4x1GB. I cant see nothing wrong with the slot at all and all the sticks work its a problem between the slot and northbridge. Probably a bad BGA joint under the northbridge chip and would of been the reason it ended up at the tip. I am a bit dubious giving this to my customer as a replacement. There is nothing worse than fixing something (especially selling them one to replace their dead one) and they are on the phone a week later that its not working. Oh its an XPS420, Q6600, X38 chipset, Had 4x1GB DDR2 ram

No the second Black slot is bad it doesnt matter which stick is in it. I can run any 2 of the 4 sticks in the white slots or a stick in the first black slot its the slot itself.
I have got W7 32bit installed now once I get all the updates on it I will give it an overnight run of prime95 blend test to give it a good workout we will see how it goes from there.

That's a DV7 laptop. Had one for work. Biggest flaw with those is the GPU goes bad. Other than that, it's not a bad unit.

yea my buddy had 2 of those DV7s they also got hot as hell I think that is what takes out the GPU in those things 1 of the 2 he had the screen wouldnt work but you could use the side video out and it would work fine I even took the screen out and checked it and it was fine plugged it into the other laptop and it worked dunno why the other ones video out died to the laptop screen but not the video out on the side lmao

this one has radeon graphics, i noticed they come with nvidia too, also noticed when i was playing with it i thought it felt a little warm but not what youd call hot on the underside maybe a laptop cooler fan pad thing would help, or it could have dust in heatsink and fan too. maybe a retim with good paste will help as well.
