I've never recorded any of mine, but through the years have built several. Much smaller in scale than this video though! XD

When I was a kid I used to fly Saturn V rocket replicas and some of them were 6ft. tall. Those were the biggest I did but it could get expensive real fast. I would lose them. Especially since they came back down in three stages.

What, like the Estes rockets? I had about 20 of em when I was a kid.

The closest I ever came to such was one of those you fill with water, pump it up with air and just launch it. It actually did well for what it was but not a real rocket by any means.

The water rockets!! I havent thought about those in a long time. It's still a rocket, just uses h20 propellant.

What, like the Estes rockets? I had about 20 of em when I was a kid. I think those were the ones. You had to have a 12 volt lantern battery to light the damned thing. Then run. ROFLMAO And there was a steel rod dug into the ground next to it to hold it up and guide it up off the launch pad.

I also had airplanes. Big ones. My favorite was a silver P51 Mustang that was nearly as big as I was. You had to take it to an empty parking lot. It was on a long string attached to the elevators to make it go up and down. My Dad got it for me at Bargain Town U.S.A.. I nearly killed 15/20 other kids with it. LOL
That one used fuel, a glo plug and also a 12 volt lantern battery to start the motor. And the pilot could eject out with a parachute and it could drop plastic bombs at targets. I usually took some poor kids hair off with the propeller. LOL Rockets, model airplanes and gas power model cars were my thing.

As a kid I had a hobby with building and flying model planes, I never got his far Had a couple of RC boats, one still at the shelf, it has hardly seen water.

I used to rather enjoy it as a child, but the costs got pretty high rather quick.

One day I'd like to build an RC sub that can dive and surface. There are models guys have made that can do all this, plus fire torpedoes that will go off like the real thing - Of course nothing destructive since it's all for show, just a "Pop" in the water.
These guys have ships that can actually sink each other, they use BB"s with Co2 to make them fire. The ships themselves are made of Balsa wood and they have little bilge pumps that work. Since they are made of Balsa wood, they take damage from the BB's in a fight. If one takes damage and the pump(s) can't get the water out fast enough - It goes down like the real thing.

My Dad was reminding me of the time I let loose of a water rocket. It went sideways and went up my cousin Lisa's dress. I do believe it penetrated her chee chee. My Dad has the hiccups now. He can't stop laughing. ROFLMAO

I also had a helicopter. I was just learning to fly it. I was in a small park and the wind took it up too high and it went right up into the church belfry. Had to have Father Mike go up there and get it for me. I had so many toys like that in the 60s. Boats too.

I didn't have anything like that.. but before kids came me and some co-workers got pretty hardcore into land based RC. We started of with Nitro Revo's. After I learned to tune properly I bought an O.S. .21 for it. Then we moved to Lipo power and we were running 6S. Fucking insanity lol. I had mine geared for 80mph so I could do rolling backflips at 40mph lol. Was a bit hard on diffs..
Like standing in a parking lot shredding hundred dollar bills..

Ah yes, this was something the older guys in our club did back in the 70's. On club evenings, building, repairing and trying to make the engines run. As I recall there were like two types of fuel engines, ie using different kind of fuel mix. This was done as flying the plane in a circle and then doing flight stunts as much as one dared, taking in count the speed.
I got as far as getting a 2nd hand engine and building a bench with all the stuff around it, engine was a hard starter so never got around to building a plane for it.
One of my neighbors had this fly-by-wire hobby too, and a small field nearby. Could see&hear their flights At that time maybe safety ranges was not as tight, think it is different nowadays.

Now I want a radio controlled P-51 Mustang. I want working retracting landing gear too. Then I want a Vought F4U Corsair. Saving up. I won't be happy till I take someone's hair off with one. That's the new hobby I intend to take up in my old age. ROFLMAO

I dabbled in RC cars for a little while also. Had an RC10 with a Nova speed controller and a three speed tranny.

Oh my gosh I love that Corsair. Wow, it does barrel rolls. Edit: I bet I could land it A LOT better than he did. Bet I could do a 3 point landing with it. That little sucker looks to handle real well.

I got my finger caught in the propeller of my P-51 once. It was not pretty. The prop cut right down to the bone.
Edit: It didn't have a starter on it. You had to spin the prop with your finger to start it.

I've got an engine (Cox .049) here that would be great with an RC setup. You'd be suprised how many of these are still around..... And how expensive they are to get now. Fuel is another thing but there are formulas for making your own fuel. There is even a guy that makes and sells it, got a nice, big bottle last year for this engine and I still have it stashed. More than enough fuel to fly or whatever for an entire weekend if I really wanted to. Since I'm not really wanting it for an Airplane, maybe an RC Fanboat? That would be cool, no risk of crashing it while still being able to utilize the prop.

hiya gang i confess to have done more brain surgery than rocket science, but i still build and fly things you can check out my blog here if you wish : www.rcgroups.com/forums/member.php?u=197227and me in action some time ago
and here, even longer ago (the commentary voice is now 18 years old) :
and a free flight design i did, using a capacitor for power :
