hello, long time no visit, but life has been keeping me distracted
however, i felt obliged to come for a visit and confess that after a long time on the dark side i have finally returned to the red team (for cpu anyhows)
doesn't seem like that long ago i was learning the secrets of o.c. from mr scott and the rest of you, first with socket a, and then eventually on to my trusty opteron 165
then i got into core2, and later still a 2500k, and for some years a 2600k and drifted off some
but not lately !
i got the itch for zen, and for the first time in a very long while i bought some brand new barebones, which was pretty timely, as prices here have rocketed thanks to covid-19 and scarcity, plus the pacific peso has tanked
so :
ryzen 5 3600 / msi b450m mortar max / 2x8gb G.Skill ripjawsV @ 3200 / samsung 850 evo 250 + wd 2tb blue / Lian Li PC-A17B & corsair hx750i & noctua fans / gigabyte gtx1060 oc 6g / dell u2515h
all but the first 3 bits are carry over from my i7 build, but now doing even better for the upgrade
- not too shabby !
collected some nice sound stuff in the interim too : stoner ud110v2 usb dac + klipsch promedia 2.1 + alo pan am + AKG Q701
my early view of the ryzen ? lovely stuff, but graphic bios is a p.i.t.a. to navigate, and the stock wraith stealth cooler is noisy after a long time with t.r.u.e. and then a megahalems... and no sign of any adapters, leaving me with several kilos worth of old school heatsinks that i am sad to decommission
looking to a coolermaster hyper 212 black edition which is tiny by comparison, but 65w isn't a lot of heat, and it should allow me to clock up a bit - if i had a clue on am4 and infinity fabric
so, couldn't resist a little boastful re-acquaintance with the "classic" team
i trust you are all coping okay in the current pandemic; i'm still working and doing my best to avoid the contagion, but having dodged death by lymphoma, i'm pretty inclined to think i am hard to kill (or so i hope)
anyway, stay well ! i'll try and drop by in the not so distant future and check the threads
best wishes to you all in these trying times

Good hearing from you! Man, you need to pop in more often if you can, you've missed quite alot that's been going on. I'm happy to hear the Ryzen is working out for you overall, mine so far has been all aces. It's like anything else we've ever ran into, will take time to learn but can be done if you mess around with it long enough - I know you will before it's over with.
Good hearing from you big guy!

Really nice that you dropped by. Glad that you are okay. That's a nice setup you have. I have 4 Ryzen chips in my stable. Two ryzen rigs up and running. One 2700x rig as my main rig. One Ryzen 5 1600 AF as my backup and one of each chip in the closet as backups. AMD is kicking ass.

Good to see you here man. Was good to see you posting over on ocau. hope my input helped. I reckon just keep an eye out for a second hand 120mm (minimum) fan noctua and get the AM4 mounting kit from them.

hey again all ! thanks for the other info over at ocau, chris
probably worth mentioning to the locals that i have some older hardware here that i am unlikely to squeeze for speed, but may be useful for the team to bench if you are still doing hotbot as a bunch
my psu options are just adequate for supplying the working rigs, so cranking up anything else with the "spare" (but markedly suss) corsair hx650 may release magic smoke
if you peoples are keen i can list what i have and it's yours at mates' rates; the biggest issue will be getting to the post office, but cpu and ram i can bung in a post box locally well packed
to whet your appetite there's a q6600 and my old 8400, plus some micron (corsair) ddr2 i think; there's also a nice giga ep35-ds3 that was my daily driver through last decade
my ddr3 high speed is still getting used, and the 1600 stuff is pretty generic (for g.skill)
let me know; i doubt it will get used here, and i'm happy for the team to get some points with it

A list would be nice and the Part No. for the Corsairs.

yee hah ! local nerd forum got my telepathy and i just scored the hyper 212 black edition for $35aud plus post (new here is 2x that)
sad news is i have to pull out the board to fit it, but that's not major
guess my stock settings will throttle at higher speed with the additional cooling
looks like i can start on the stock taking of old parts for you pete
