Water froze up in the fins after about 15 minutes. Water got to as low at 1.3 degrees C. I have -45 Degree windshield washer fluid now. I also bought a 75GPM pond pump ($20). plan it to have it rain down the rad from the top. I can't find a cooler tall enough. So the pond pump will pump in to a 3' long hose and that hose will have small holes in it to shower down the rad the use the whole thing... I need to add some insulation foam to add to the height and close it up, and I also need to find 1/2" hose insulation for the cold gas tubing and water tubing. Nice thing so far is the unit is so big and heavy that the body shell slides out deliberately, it has a sub frame to hold everything and the cooler is sitting on it. it over-hangs a little on the left. the power control box is not back it its original location. because the thermocouple isn't near the rad or the water the unit just runs full out. and I think that'll be just fine. If anyone of you think I should have the unit cycle on/off based on temp, let me know your thoughts on this. That's the plan right now. Vin

vinne go check out your local green grocer / vege shop and see what large foam boxes with a lid they have that their veges come in, you might be lucky to get 1 big enough to fit the radiator cooler in it and fit the lid as well, just cut a slot where the pipes go and refit the foam around them, the 1/2 hose insulation i got from my local plumbing shop, its proper pipe/air con insulation tubing, then all you have to do is slit it with a stanley blade over the pipes and tape it up, saves resoldering pipes and losing coolant even if you get 2 of the same size foam box you can cut 1 in half length ways and glue it on then duck tape around it to hold it more solidly, then the top of the other you can use to put the lid on how it fits normally and then its pretty much airtight again

the pipe insulation I have tons of, I just have to find it. thanks for the tip on the veggie foam box. I went to my local stores here and I can't find a foam cooler big enough.
I'll keep looking. it would be super slick if I could get the original shell back on. for the moment I was thinking of modding it to hold the cooler... I'll wait before I cut that up.
Vin
EDIT: it's an odd size, 16" high and 19" wide is what the cooler needs to be minimum.

vinnie i have a large foam broccoli box here that i used to use to transport my oysters when i was farming, its 30" x 10" x 9", if you get 2 of them, cut the bottom out of 1 then trim the lid top lip off the bottom box where the lid seals then get a silastic gun and run a good bead of silastic around it then put the top box on, let the silastic cure you then have you cooler box big enough to take your cooler, and you can fit the lid back on the top box to seal, easy peasy mate and itll cost you bugger all

good stuff vinnie , thats what you need, 1.1/2 wall thickness is insane foam thickness, that will do so well, buy 2 of em then do what i suggested and you got 1 mother of a cooler full of ice and water

With that size, it's all I need. I double checked my rad size. 17.75" wide, 7" thick (with angled tubing), 15.5" high... so that one cooler is all I need. with the cardboard box outer shell... she'll be a sealed puppy.
I just sent them an email asking if it'll hold water to confirm. I might have to add a water proof layer.. I don't know that one yet.

Got my foam coolers, and they don't hold water at all... I got 2 of them and they both did the same thing. the water bleeds through the foam pellets.
So I'm looking for a tote that I'll use as an inner sleeve. This may be tricky. I might be able to make one out of fiberglass, but the resin will eat the foam. so I'll have to be careful if I go that route.

what a bugger vin, what about drylok, its a latex based masonry paint they use to waterproof basements, dont know if it will react with the foam tho

Rubbermaid tote and a few cans of Great Stuff Vin. Tote in a cardboard box and fill the void between the box and the tote with Great Stuff.

Rubbermaid tote and a few cans of Great Stuff Vin. Tote in a cardboard box and fill the void between the box and the tote with Great Stuff. That's a good idea. But I have these foam coolers. I'm thinking of using some 8mil poly (vapour barrier plastic) and make a skin layer on the inside of the foam cooler, a thin piece of acyclic on the bottom to protect the plastic from tearing. I think that's the simplest solution. These coolers are the perfect size for the chiller rad. If I had to start over, then I'd use a tote and cardboard. Vin

So when I do something.. I go ALL OUT bled the lines and running the pump. (never applied power to the PC yet.) Made a stand and access hole for the water lines and electricity. Mini sprinkler to have the chilled water to run down the rad

After about 25-30 minutes (I wasn't keeping track... could had been 10min or 1 hour... I haven't slept in 27 hours... I going slowwwwwwww... lol) T1 (Top) is my block temp, T2 (Bottom) is my water temp at the top of the sprinkler I'm officially in the chilled water category I still need to insulate the black return line, once I saw a comfortable amount of condensation I turned off the AC unit, but I left the water pump running to see what would happen.... not 10 minutes later (walk to the AC unit and back). I'm a bloody happy camper..... Block was holding -18 deg based on the average on the meter... So I think I'll be able to hold -20 to -25 Degrees. Once I have the lines insulated and the hole penetrations in the foam box sealed I'll run a stress test.... figure 4 hours non-stop and see where/what sweats... Then I'll be ready. I'm excited... I want swear real loud.... Vin

vin what did you end up using to seal the foam box from water seepage ? 8mil Plastic poly normally used for vapour barriers for homes. I cut it and folded it in place as 1 piece. then I used Tuck tape to keep it in position. I also wrapped the foam box in tuck tape to help keep it together. running it now. block temp at -21 degrees and still falling.... fuck I'm so happy Vin
